Vanessa Beecroft Polaroids, 1993 – 2016
The current festival includes lectures, talks and events alongside three photography exhibitions from boundary-breaking creatives. This includes a solo show for Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft which brings together blow-ups of polaroids and sculptures.
The exhibition: Vanessa Beecroft: Polaroids 1993 – 2016 will take place at the Palazzo Reale, and celebrate the photographer’s often provocative and longstanding exploration of female identity in the contemporary age.
The Female Gaze
At Base Milano, a wider collection of female photographers have come together under ‘The Female Gaze’, an exhibition that turns the famous art theory on its head and re-examines contemporary fashion photography through this radical new lens.
Co-curated by Alessia Glaviano and Chiara Bardelli Nonino, the exhibition invites viewers to relate to the female body for what it is, presenting women as human, rather than having to play the prescriptive and pre-determined role of either mistress or Madonna. Photographers on display at the ‘Female Gaze’ exhibition include renowned figures such as Cindy Sherman and emerging stars like Petra Collins, all united by their fearless and radical approach to depicting the female body and identity.
Organised as part of the PhotoVogue competition, this exhibition showcases the best new talent working in the industry today, with artists selected by a panel of judges to appear at this festival. Work is provocative, thoughtful and enigmatic, something we’ve come to expect from the boldest of the Vogue family’s publications.
The inaugural edition of Photo Vogue Festival takes place in Milan, Italy, on November 22-26.
