Athens is a city that hardly sleeps, so unsurprisingly, you can find restaurants and tavernas open until past midnight. But for those nights where you just need to feast on a hearty meal after the clubs close, here is a selection of restaurants and food joints where you can enjoy food after hours.

A little place that brings a taste of Italy to Athens, Facce Strane is an all-day restaurant that serves coffee and snacks in the morning, panini and salads for lunch and pasta in the evenings. Pop by for some late-night grub such as perfectly done tagliatelle with truffles or some mouthwatering pizza. And even if you are not a late-night eater, the lunch is equally scrumptious with tasty grilled sandwiches such as the Eolia, which includes beef, fontina cheese, mustard and caramelised onions.

To Karotsi tou Giatrou (or Doc’s Burger Bar) is a welcoming spot owned by George, aka ‘Doc’, a friendly man who sells excellent sandwiches. With a bright smile on his face, the owner is well known among locals, and his shop is a perfect spot to get a decadent sandwich on the go after a night out in Monastiraki or Psirri. Try the Subway XL, a 30-centimetre (12-inch) sandwich with fried egg, ham, cheese, bacon, pepperoni and tomato (and other toppings), and be sure to order some fries too.

Step inside and be transported to the busy streets of Bangkok with one bite of the green curry.
In picturesque Plaka, Yiasemi is an all-day café where you can find coffee and drinks as well as homemade desserts and several small dishes. In the winter, you will love sitting next to the fireplace, complete with a serving of rakomelo.
