Who doesn’t enjoy a great night out with friends, complete with excellent music, delicious drinks and a vibrant atmosphere? You can find all this and even more in the lively neighbourhood of Gazi, easily accessible by public transport (the blue line Kerameikos stop is right on the main square). But to save you some time, here is a list of the top bars to visit when in this Athens neighbourhood.
A Liar Man
Bar, Cocktail Bar, Contemporary, Beer, $$$
A great alternative bar in the heart of bustling Gazi, A Liar Man is a lively place where you can try many delicious cocktails in a cosy atmosphere. Located in an old neoclassical building on a quieter street, A Liar Man is an excellent spot to visit if you are not into overcrowded bars. In the summer, the open-air courtyard is perfect for having drinks until the wee hours of the morning.

Small and humbly decorated with modern industrial accents, Urban Cafe is perfect for a coffee break in the morning or afternoon, with a menu including light food options and snacks. By night, however, Urban turns into a lively bar, with expertly crafted cocktails plus live music or DJ sets.
A veteran among the bars in the area, Gazaki is a favourite of both Athenians and visitors. From day one, it has gathered a low-key mixed crowd with its excellent music, friendly atmosphere and fantastic drinks. During the warm summer nights, the rooftop is definitely a place to be. To put it simply, a night in Gazi is not complete unless you drop by Gazaki.
A bar owned by a national mountain bike champion was bound to be special and quirky. Flamme Rouge is a bike-obsessed bar serving tasty drinks alongside flavourful food options. Low-key and cosy, the place is a must-see during the summer when the backyard, with its hammocks and comfy pallet furniture, invites you to relax and take a break.

A multi-purpose venue with several stages for live performances, a bookstore, a restaurant and a bar (with an adjacent rooftop space), Gazarte is a must-visit hub in the Gazi area. The rooftop gets quite crowded in the summer, so if you plan on dropping by, come early. You’ll be able to witness a view over the entire area and the Technopolis.
A little jazz bar off the main street in Gazi, Afrikana takes you straight to distant shores with the sound of live music and DJ sets. Sit outside or in the warmly decorated interior main room, and savour refreshing drinks. Kenyan paintings, colourful African baskets and wood objects adorn the room, while the menu offers coffee, exotic flavours and spices that are put together to create unique cocktails.
Though technically in the Metaxourgeio neighbourhood, BIOS is another hot spot in Gazi. This urban culture centre serving as a bar (Tesla), a cinema/theatre and stage for live gigs has one of the best rooftop spaces in the area, which opens come summertime. Combine your night there with a live performance on the premises to get a full taste of one of the top hot spots in Athens.
Hoxton, a former warehouse successfully turned into a bar, is a popular hangout for Athenians and foreigners alike. With a modern interior, cosy leather couches and an excellent eclectic playlist, Hoxton has a relaxed and casual atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a night out on the town complemented by tasty drinks and cocktails.
