If January has you dreaming of warmer climes, then Mykonos should be on your list. One of Greece’s most famous islands for a reason, with its mild winters and sun-kissed summers, it’s the perfect place to escape to all year round. To help you discover all Mykonos has to offer, Culture Trip has teamed up with the British Airways American Express® Credit Card to explore this gem in the Cyclades. What’s more, we’ll show you how your everyday spending can help you collect Avios to jet off sooner.

1. Explore Mykonos Town

No visit to Mykonos is complete without getting totally lost in the Cycladic maze of whitewashed buildings and cobbled streets that wind through Mykonos Town. Enjoy some retail therapy at the bougainvillea-adorned boutiques or stop off at one of the area’s chic restaurants and bars (try Lucky Fish for ocean-fresh seafood), as this part of the island stays busy way past sundown.

2. Take in the views at Oniro Sunset Bar

Oniro is a cosy, atmospheric bar set on a gorgeous rooftop terrace that looks down onto Mykonos Town and across the Aegean. It’s the perfect place to stop for a drink after a sunset swim or to enjoy dinner including Greek souvlaki (grilled meats), locally sourced seafood, cheese, vegetables and more. There’s a bar indoors, but you’ll want to be on one of the pillow-covered benches outside, looking out onto the magical island landscape.

3. Visit the iconic Mykonos windmills

One of the island’s most popular cultural attractions is the collection of 16th-century windmills located on a small headland just south of Little Venice. Once vital to the island’s economy (used for turning grain into flour), the windmills have recently been restored to their former glory in testament to the quality and beauty of the island’s rural architecture, and visitors to the windmills can also soak up the island’s stunning coastal views.

5. Unwind at Ftelia Beach Club

Ftelia Beach Club looks out across Ftelia Bay, whose sapphire waters cocoon a crescent-shaped sandy beach. This gorgeous rustic beach club offers good vibes and great food. Highlights from the seasonal menu include the lentil salad and the grilled octopus. Best of all, you can make the most of the warmer climes to stay on past sunset and dance the night away!

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
