Looking for fashion inspiration ahead of your Greek holiday? Look no further. Culture Trip asked Xeni Kouveli, the stylist and blogger behind The Style Love, to give her expert tips on how to achieve flawless summer fashion. Read on for how to get great Greek island style.

Wear your one-piece swimsuit as a bodysuit

Citing the transferable power of the swimsuit, Xeni Kouveli advises that upping your swimsuit game will keep you feeling fresh all day. “You can wear it from day to night, from the beach straight, to dinner, to dancing, to evening walks and then, who knows, maybe even back to the beach again for a romantic night swim.” In terms of brands, the blogger cites MAAN swimwear and Boogalloo swimwear as two failsafe options. If you’re coming through Athens there’s plenty of great places to check out Greek swimwear designers.

Scarfs as skirts

“Scarfs can be worn as skirts, as tops, as accessories, you can even turn them into bags!” Says Xeni, suggesting that a transferable and multi-functional wardrobe is key to nailing the island look. “They’re airy, loose, light weighted and often printed with beautiful patterns and colours. One scarf can be used for endless looks!” If you’re looking for inspiration, check out Greek A Totem Fur Elita.

“The looser the better! And co-ord sets are the perfect companion for the Greek islands. Because they’re comfy and flowy, they can cope with all kinds of extreme conditions, from the Aegean wind, to rain or the boiling heat… Plus, co-ord sets help you can cover up your belly after eating that extra souvlaki!”

Covet a cross body bag

“Replace your huge carry-on bag with an easy, grab-and-go bag. You want to travel light and have both hands free to take as many pictures as you can!” For a Greek take on this staple accessory, Xeni suggests Elena Karavasili‘s cross body bag. Perfect for exploring the islands all day and night.

Ways to perfect summer fashion in the city

Find your staple sandals

Finding a great pair of summer sandals is essential for staying fashionable and comfortable at the same time, Xeni tells us. “You can either go for the classic Greek leather ones or the modern version with comfy soles.” Whether you’re exploring Plaka, climbing Mount Lycabettus, drinking in Koukaki or dancing around Metaxourgeio, sandals are your Greek city staple.

Make your basket bag your best friend

“Basket bags are super stylish, the it item which can be worn from day to night. They can work either with a casual look but also look great with formal wear, giving dressed up looks an extra twist.” For ultimate Greek style points, Xeni says: “Choose Greek brand Zenais Greek brand, Cult Gaia brand or find a traditional basket from the Greek craftsmen at Psyri area in Athens.”

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
