Germany might be the home of beer, but its capital also has a certain affinity for another hoppy beverage. From Irish pubs to local haunts, the dry Irish stout, Guinness, can be found at bars and restaurants around Berlin. Here are the best spots to try in the city.

1. The Harp

The Harp is the oldest Irish pub in Berlin and possibly one of the most beautiful, authentic spots in the city. Housed in a historic cream building on a quiet street in Charlottenburg, it brings a traditional Irish charm to the area. In the winter guests can cosy up with a pint of Guinness and enjoy a sports broadcast or some live music and in the summer they can soak in the sun on the large outdoor terrace. Offering a variety of Irish and German beers, traditional Irish food and pub grub, as well as a welcoming atmosphere, it’s the place to go when you’re craving a Guinness.

Belushi’s bar is known for throwing loud, rowdy and awesome parties for international celebrations. A favourite spot in the city on St Patrick’s Day, the bar serves up well-priced Guinness all year round to sate the cravings of their international guests.

3. Kilkenny Irish Pub Berlin

Kilkenny Irish Pub Berlin is perfectly located in the heart of Berlin at Hackescher Markt. Established in 1992, Kilkenny is one of Berlin’s oldest Irish haunts, so they’ve had plenty of practice at pouring the perfect pint of Guinness. It’s also one of the largest Irish joints in the city, where you can enjoy your Guinness in a rowdy atmosphere, with live music on the weekends and broadcasts of sports matches.

5. Badfish

Badfish is the dim-lit, hard wood, smoky Prenzlauer Berg bar with a laid-back vibe. Instead of happy hour, they have ‘angry hour’, which is nothing to get agitated about, as two for one pints promise cheap drinks from 5 pm-7 pm. They have a nice selection of beers, cider and spirits as well as tasty pints of resonably priced Guinness. Dim lighting, candelit tables, a jukebox, exposed bricks and a super friendly staff, make up the interior and mean this neighbourhood spot is an easy pick for visitors.

6. MacLaren's Pub

MacLaren’s Pub is a How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) themed Irish pub located in trendy Friedrichshain. This quirky joint pays homage to the nine-season strong show, complete with plenty of inside jokes. If you’re looking for a pint of Guinness in Friedrichshain, this is the bar for you, located on Boxhagener Straße this joint is not only a copy of the sitcom pub, it’s also a beloved Irish haunt serving up amazing pub grub, perfectly pour pints and great vibes.

7. Murphy's Berlin

Murphy’s Berlin has two centrally establishments located in Berlin and its Schiffbauerdamm bar is perfectly positioned by the Spree. The dark wood, cosy interior compliments the traditional atmosphere of the place, while the bar’s menu offers a range of Irish favourites, including a comprehensive whiskey list and of course, well-priced, delicious Guinness.

8. Destille Kreuzberg

Destille is a cosy, local bar with an impressive, extensive drinks menu. Located in Kreuzberg near Viktoriapark, is the place to head for draught Guinness and a traditional, kneipe atmosphere.

Started by Irishman Matthew Minch, helloGoodPie serves up some of the best pies in Berlin. Together with Peter Olubodun, Matthew offers mouth-watering locally sourced, high-quality pies, including the James Joyce, the truly tasty steak and Guinness pie. Proving that Guinness can be enjoyed in more ways than one, this spot is a must try.

General Post Office is the 20-year strong Irish pub located in Berlin-Steglitz. Deep wood interiors, light airy windows and a whiskey-lined bar make up much of the bar’s atmosphere. While a selection of beers, ciders and of course, pints of boldly brewed Guinness can be enjoyed.
