Around the corner from the Äußere Neustadt quarter and tucked in a courtyard behind an unimposing house front, the small Falscher Hase restaurant serves vegan dishes. From organic products and regional produce, the chefs create veggie stews, leek salads and creative main courses from pasta Napoli to soy steak burgers. The menu varies with the season, and daily specials are available.

Those with a sweet tooth will want to stop at v-cake at least once to indulge in the homemade vegan cakes, muffins, crêpes and fresh soft ice cream in the summer months. For savoury cravings, the cosy café serves soups, sandwiches and Flammkuchen as well as a number of selected warm lunch options daily.
This café is where Saag Paneer meets homemade Spätzle. Set in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Dresden’s trendiest quarter, the Scheunen Café pairs Indian cuisine with regional specialities. The thread runs through from breakfast to dinner and delivers the best of both worlds. Think chickpea curry followed by chocolate soufflé or a main of spinach-and-cheese Knödel and a mango lassi for dessert.

If you’re travelling with omnivorous friends, the LadenCafé aha is the place where everyone in the group will find something they like. The crossover between café and shop is open for breakfast through dinner and offers substantial meat and plant-based dishes, including vegan varieties of spaghetti bolognese and Russian Borschtsch.
German cuisine is generally meat heavy. At Steffenhagen, a vegan-only restaurant located in Äußere Neustadt, traditional dishes are being reinvented into tasty plant-based meals. Whether it’s Schnitzel or Gulasch you’ve always wanted to try, the menu won’t leave you disappointed.
Roots in the Äußere Neustadt district banks on vegan and vegetarian burgers, wraps, open-faced sandwiches and salads. Their chickpea burger patties come in a wholegrain bun, and you can pick your toppings – grilled veggies, vegan or feta cheese – and a side of fries, sweet potato fries or a salad.
