Within the German city of Stuttgart lies the small neighborhood of Kerneviertel. This little district is mostly residential but still boasts some great restaurants, cafés and bistros. We list the ones to try while you’re in the neighborhood.
Pizzeria Italia is known for serving authentic Italian, specifically Roman cuisine. Stuttgart’s Italian local population swears by the restaurant and are often overheard chatting in Italian with the pizzeria’s staff. Pizzeria Italia’s décor is minimalistic while still being inviting, with paper star lanterns in the windows, a small fireplace, and photos of the Colosseum on the walls.
Finding a good restaurant in Stuttgart serving Croatian cuisine may be a rarity but Restaurant Kronprinz offers just the place in Kernerviertel. The restaurant’s décor is both attractive and refined, complete with wooden furniture and accents and wine shelves spread across the walls. Do not forget to wash everything down with one of the wines from the restaurant’s extensive wine list.
Aspendos exudes Turkish culture with his traditional food from the Turkish countryside, the urban area of the Bosporus and everywhere in between. Aspendos differs from other nearby Turkish restaurants, making their food over real charcoal fuelled grills and having their Mediterranean fish delivered daily.
Poffers Café is a quaint little Dutch restaurant serving some of Kernerviertel’s sweetest meals. The Café aims to bring joy to customers through delicious Dutch-style pancakes. The café’s ambiance is casual and cute, with white wooden furniture, fresh daisies on every table and vintage Dutch pancake pans lining the walls. Lucky visitors to the city can also find Poffers’ famous Dutch pancakes at one of the café’s food trucks, which are always stationed throughout Stuttgart.
Kismet serves some of the best Turkish cuisine in Stuttgart. The restaurant’s décor is reminiscent of Turkey, with prints featuring Turkish mosques and markets adorning brightly painted orange walls. With dark wooden accents and white tablecloths, Kismet has a cozy yet upscale ambience. Kismet’s food is delicious and the restaurant offers set menus that change everyday in addition to their large a la carte menu.
