Kreuzberg is the heart of culture and nightlife in Berlin. Easily one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods, it is home to many amazing restaurants, some of the best nightclubs, cool bars and top Berlin sights. The area is a hotspot for young and trendy Berliners drawn to its underground atmosphere, and it’s the perfect place to locate yourself during a trip to the city. Here are the best budget hostels to stay at in the heart of Kreuzberg.

Hostel X Berger

Hostel X Berger is perfectly located near the border of Kreuzberg and Neukolln, on a part of the Spree river that houses many waterside techno clubs and bars. A short walk from Schlesisches Tor, this hostel also puts travellers close to many cool local cafes and cheap restaurants. Rooms are perfect for the budget traveller, with prices starting at 10€ ($11.70).

36 Rooms

In the heart of Kreuzberg and located in a restored Berlin townhouse, is 36 Rooms hostel. The surrounding area is packed with quirky bars, cheap eats and a lively atmosphere. With bike rentals, 24-hour reception and welcoming staff, 36 Rooms has plenty of features to ensure you have a great stay in Berlin. Prices vary depending on the time of the week you stay, however they start at 8-10€ ($9.40-11.70) for mixed dorms.

Jetpak Alternative

Located close to Gorlitzer park in the Wrangel kiez, Jetpak Alternative places guests close to some of Berlin’s hottest clubs such as Watergate, Berghain and Lido. The location is also close to main tourists sights, including East Side Gallery, the Soviet Memorial and Spreepark. Metropol Hostel

Metropol Hostel is located near Mehringdamm U-Bahn station, where the most famous kebab in Berlin Mustafa’s Gemuse Kebab is housed. You will often find locals and tourists lining up in rain or shine to get a taste of the best kebab in Berlin. The area is also a stone’s throw away from Checkpoint Charlie and Brandenburg Gate, and close to some of Berlin’s best clubs. Prices start at 15.70€ ($18.40) for a 10-bed mixed dorm and go up to 22.30€ ($26.16) for a 4-bed dorm. All prices include a buffet breakfast with the stay.

Baxpax hostel is housed in a refurbished factory building in the heart of Kreuzberg. This budget hostel offers a laid-back atmosphere and unique space on trendy Skalitzer Straße. Close to the Spree, East Side Gallery and some of the city’s best techno clubs, it’s a prime location when staying in Berlin. Prices start at 10€ ($11.70) for a large mixed dorm and go up from there.


Comebackpackers hostel was created by travellers, for travellers. Located in the heart of Kottbusser Tor, visitors will be close to bustling and edgy nightlife, trendy bars and great cafes. It offers basic, spacious rooms and a large common area, as well as a large rooftop terrace that looks out at Kottbusser Tor. Prices are between 12€-15€ ($14-17) per night.

Riverside Lodge Hostel

Riverside Lodge is a cosy and comfortable hostel near the Spree in Kreuzberg. Located on the leafy, quiet canals near Schonleinstraße station, Riverside Lodge puts you close to the action. Opposite the hostel is Paul-Lincke-Ufer, which is known for amazing cafes, brunch spots and cool bars.
