The German university town of Augsburg has a rich literary heritage, and unsurprisingly, is home to a series of great bookstores. Here, we have compiled a list of bookshops that, fueled by the love of bookworms, are still going strong in the age of online shopping. These shops encourage visitors to browse for hours, chat with fellow book lovers, or even dig into delicious cakes and coffee.

1. Thalia

Bookstore, Shop

Thalia is right in the city center of Augsburg and promises a great range of books for adults and children across several genres. This is also a nice shop to browse stationery, toys, games, music CDs, and DVDs and to pick up gifts for loved ones. While parents browse, the play area next to the kids’ section keeps children happily occupied. Thalia also hosts authors and book readings on a regular basis.

2. Books 'n Beans

Bookstore, Shop

Books ‘n Beans is a well-known Christian book shop with an unbeatable collection of books on God, faith, religion, and life. Additionally, the shop also has a section stocked with CDs, DVDs, magazines, postcards, greeting cards, and gift items. Visitors can always take a break from browsing and relax over coffee and cake at the adjoining café.

3. Hugendubel

Hugendubel stocks an extensive range of titles spread over two floors. In case what you are looking for is not immediately available, they are happy to take orders for the same. The cozy ambience and welcoming vibe make it a pleasure for book-lovers to spend hours here browsing or even reading. Hugendubel’s friendly staff is always ready to assist visitors with expert suggestions.

5. Comic Time

Bookstore, Shop

Comic Time is a one-stop shop for comic lovers in Augsburg. It has an immaculately arranged, extensive range of new and old comic books across several genres, including a section on Manga. The owner and staff are very enthusiastic about comics and happy to share their suggestions with visitors. It also stocks a good selection of action figures and board games, and even hosts game evenings.

6. Weltbild Outlet

Weltbild Outlet is a great place to pick up books at sensational prices. The books stocked here are all new, but taken out of packaging, returned or with minor defects, which usually don’t matter to true book lovers. If you browse with patience, you are sure to find several titles you would like to take home, and not burn holes in your pockets in the process.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
