Berlin comes alive in the summer, as festivals and open-airs become a weekend occurrence and the nightlife shifts outdoors. When the days are long, sun-drenched and scorching, the last place to be is in a sweaty, indoor club. Here are the best summer spots with outdoor seating in Berlin.

1. Club der Visionaere

Bar, Nightclub, Cafe, Pizzeria, German

Club der Visionaere is the waterside club that always has something going on. Offering a diverse musical line-up including hip-hop, ’80s pop, ’90s R&B, and, of course, house and techno sounds, there is also a small dance floor and plenty of open-air seating. One of the most popular summer clubs, expect to queue for a while on weekends. However, once inside it’s certainly worth the wait, with a diverse crowd, outdoor ambience and exciting mix of music.

2. House of Weekend

Bar, Nightclub, German

House of Weekend is a rooftop garden bar and indoor club overlooking Alexanderplatz. The roof garden is the perfect summer hang out, sporting views of the infamous TV Tower as well as delicious cocktails and a cool, young crowd. Visitors are invited to hang out on the rooftop sun-loungers while watching the sunset over the city, and then mosey over to the adjoining club to dance the night away. Central, stylish and trendy, this is a crowd favourite for the city’s pretty young socialites.

3. Salon Zur Wilden Renate

Nightclub, Contemporary

Known by locals as Renate, this club is housed in a former apartment building in a mostly-residential part of Berlin. The interior of the club consists of a number of small rooms playing mostly deep house, electronic and techno music. The outdoor area boasts a huge wonderland-style garden, complete with a photo booth, wooden boat, and plenty of chill spots. A local haunt with an unmatched vibe, this club always promises a wild night.

5. Deck5

Bar, Pub Grub

Deck5 is the biggest and highest rooftop beach in Berlin. Located on top of a shopping centre at Schönhauser Allee Arcaden, it’s the perfect outdoor rooftop bar to enjoy a beautiful Berlin sunset. The ambience is laid-back, with a DJ playing house and lounge music, with tall plants, kitschy beach décor, and comfortable chairs and beds making up the furnishing. Prices for drinks are higher than average for Berlin, however, the relaxed, secluded vibe and stunning views make up for it.

6. Sisyphos

Nightclub, Contemporary

In the summertime, Sisyphos is a favourite spot among Berlin locals. Throwing some of the wildest parties in the city, Sisyphos has a warehouse-style main room and a large outdoor playground-like area. Line-ups and nights are often a mix of techno, house and electronic, attracting large crowds from Friday to Monday in the warmer months. Wild, wonderful and electric, it’s the part-outdoor nightclubs that the locals love.

7. Prater Biergarten

Pub, Restaurant, German

Prater Biergarten is Berlin’s oldest beer garden, located on the trendy central street, Kastanienallee. Comprised of a vast open-air setup with picnic-style seating, the large beer garden is a wonderful mix of traditional German ambience and contemporary cool. Visitors can enjoy traditional German beers, including light Pils lager and darker numbers, along with delicious homemade German food, in the modern setting under the shade of chestnut trees.

8. Griessmuehle

Griessmuehle is an industrial-style club close to Sonnenallee S-Bahnhof station in Neukölln. Located by the spree in an old grain mill, the club has two dance floors, one of which is housed in a small basement area, with the other, larger area on the first floor. It also has a huge outside area complete with grain silos, various makeshift hideaways, and benches that look out over the canal. With techno-fuelled nights, cheap drinks and plenty of outdoor chill spots, Griessmuehle is the perfect summer spot.
