The beer gardens, or ‘biergarten,’ of Berlin have their own charm, offering the perfect place to unwind from the busy day and enjoy an evening drink outside. Take a look at our top biergartens to sample some traditional German beer in a suitably scenic setting.

1. Hofbräu Berlin

When it comes to a traditional German dining and drinking experience, it doesn’t get much closer than Hofbräu Berlin. A piece of Bavaria in central Berlin, this space is the self-proclaimed largest beer hall in Europe. The 6,000 square foot space is decorated in a traditional style, making this typical German beer hall a unique and inviting experience for locals and tourists alike.

2. Prater Biergarten

Prater Biergarten is located on trendy street, Kastanienallee in the heart of Berlin. The city’s oldest beer garden, it has a vast yard and picnic-style seating. Visitors can enjoy traditional German beers, including light Pils lager and darker numbers, along with delicious homemade German food under the shade of chestnut trees.

Cafe am Neuen See is a picture-perfect beer garden overlooking an idyllic lake. A popular spot in the summer, visitors can also take cover under rugs to enjoy this tranquil beer garden in the winter. They’re famed for their Leberkäse – a meatloaf-style dish popular in Germany and Austria – as well as pretzels, and of course their plentiful beers to wash it all down. Guests can also rent a boat and take it out into the water to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in this central Berlin oasis.

5. Zollpackhof Biergarten

Zollpackhof Biergarten is perfectly located by the river Spree. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy some brews under the shade of the surrounding chestnut trees. With views of the German Chancellery, or Bundeskanzleramt, visitors can sit back and relax while enjoying some hearty German treats and cold traditional beers.
