Berlin is world renowned for its underground, alternative and artistic culture. Graffiti and street art are omnipresent in Germany’s capital, playing a huge role is the urban, gritty and edgy aesthetic of the city; some of the most important artists in the business come from all over the world to leave their mark. From mural artists to graffiti crews, and from street art magazines to urban galleries, here are ten Berlin based Instagram accounts celebrating all things grunge and graffiti.

1Up Crew

The 1upCrew is one of Berlin’s oldest and most well-known street art crews. They have over 300,000 followers on Instagram, and their signature ‘1Up’ tag can be seen on buildings, rooftops and trains across the city, often in hard to reach locations.

 

Berlin Writers

Berlin Writers, with almost 30,000 followers this Instagram account is a magazine and streetwear brand dedicated to showcasing graffiti in Berlin since 2012.

Twoone

Twoone is the artist name of Hiroyasu Tsuri. Originally from Japan, Twoone has made himself at home among the street art culture of Berlin with a loyal Instagram following of over 30,000. Travelling the world, the artist has a distinct street style that moves from traditional tagging into the realm of large scale murals, mostly depicting animals.

This underground connection provides a network for the street art scene in Berlin, and fans of the medium should definitely give Street Art Berlin a follow. The platform provides a space for artists to connect and get booked for mural jobs, as well as having a finger on the pulse of street art hot spots and projects happening in Berlin.

With a small following, they share the best street art captured while roaming the city’s streets.

The Urban Spree is a contemporary urban gallery and arts, events and project space. They focus on graffiti art and culture, and should be followed by anyone who wants to keep themselves in the know about the urban art scene in Berlin. Their space in the RAW area in Friedrichshain is as urban art hot spot.

Graffiti Berlin Blog

Graffiti Berlin Blog provides a visual documentation of the latest and greatest street art in the city. Their following is almost at the 11k mark, and their focus is strictly graffiti, showing mainly train tags. For the purists, you won’t find much  of the ‘beautiful’ mural artworks that are adding to the gentrification of neighbourhoods in Berlin on this account.

Open Walls Berlin

Open Walls is a gallery space which is bringing art from the streets into the gallery, and at the same time popularising the traditionally ‘low brow’ art with modern collectors. Following this account will keep you up to date with their latest exhibitions while showing off the work of the artists they represent, most of them such as Alias and Levalet coming from graffiti roots.

Urban Nation Berlin

With nearly 125,000 followers, Urban Nation Berlin is a portal for contemporary and street art lovers. They are Berlin’s Museum for Urban Contemporary Art, state funded and work with artists, residences and urban projects across the globe.
