Where To Go In Paris If You're A Poetry Lover

Updated: 23 June 2016
If you’re a poet with stars in your eyes, going to Paris for that experience you dreamt about ever since you were young is the best decision you can take. Discover your favorite poets and writers meeting at secret gatherings and cafés, sharing ideas, stories and mutually nurturing their art.

‘The Live Poets Circle’ and ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ at Shakespeare and Company

Panmelys is one of the sweetest Welsh poets you can meet. She asks you to come every Sunday ‘with a poem in your pocket and a song in your heart’ from 4pm to 6pm. Gather around a cozy circle of passionate poets, sharing a cup of tea and a treat this lovely lady will bring. Support each other in a magical ambiance surrounded by books. The wood, the wonderful smell of old books, the splendid view of the Notre Dame cathedral from the window will inspire you to open up and read your poem or story. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in English, every language, every art form is welcome.

In addition to the Poets Circle, Shakespeare and Company organizes several events during the week, inviting writers from Paris and abroad. Keep up to date with their literary events and workshops at Shakespeare and Company Events.

Spoken Word Au Chat Noir

Gather in a creative basement, hosted by Alberto, an Italian monsieur with a top hat who will certainly entertain you throughout the night. Registration begins at 8pm and artists are welcome on stage at 8:30pm. Bring your voice, bring your poetry, or if you have music to accompany your writing, bring your guitar. There is also a piano for those who want to soften the mood with a sweet and melodious voice. Others might want to rap, or bring a different edge to their prose and voice. Enjoy the show! Grab a drink at the bar during the entre-acte, the breaks, and mingle with other artists and poets. Readings are mainly in English, but feel free to spice it up in your preferred language.
