ART │Howl At The Moon (And Not The Art) At Nuit Blanche

📅 Saturday, October 1st – Sunday, October 2nd

Jean de Loisy, president of the Palais de Tokyo, is at the helm of the 15th edition of this massive public art event. Parisians will this year go on a journey, starting on the historic islands and ending on the modern banks of the Seine, accompanied at each step along the way by work from leading international artists.

ART │See It, Love It, Buy It At The Grand Salon d’Art Abordable

📅 Friday, September 3oth – Sunday, October 2nd

The affordable art show challenges the assumption that great works of art must cost an arm and a leg. Each year, 50 artists are selected to present over the course of three days and everything on show – somewhere in the region of 400 pieces – is priced between €50and €5,000. So that’s good news for your empty walls and your wallet!

SPORTS │Experience A (Vicarious) Adrenalin Rush At Menil’descente

📅 Sunday, October 2nd

Watch from the sidewalk as over 100 enthusiastic (read: mental) riders plunge down the hill in Ménilmontant in a race to the finish. This major boardercross skateboard and rollerblading event in the 20th arrondissement will feature a new route and new obstacles for its third edition but will end, as in the past, with an evening of revelry in the local bars.

FOOD │Toast The New Season At The Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre

📅 Wednesday, October 5th – Sunday, October 9th

It’s harvest time at Montmartre’s very own little vineyard and that means it’s time to party. This five-day contemporary arts festival is spread across the hilltop neighborhood in the 18th arrondissement, involving markets, restaurants, libraries, bookshops, cinemas, theaters, and even schools. There will be a range of wine-themed events, lots of music, art exhibitions and, on the final night, a spectacular fireworks display and dance party.

Tickets: Certain events may be ticketed, and these will go on sale on the website on September 19th.

FILM │Discover A New World Of Cinema At Viva Mexico

📅 Wednesday, October 5th – Tuesday, October 11th

This film festival will present the best of contemporary Mexican cinema over the course of a week. Twelve works by emerging or established directors will be showcased, including documentaries, short films and feature length movies. The aim is to put stereotypes of the past to bed and show Mexico in a new light, a country that isn’t all that dissimilar to France.

ART │Make Yourself At Home In The Studios Of The ParisArtistes#

This city-wide artistic open house event gives people the opportunity to see inside the studios and workshops of Paris’ artists. If you’ve ever wanted to find out more about the creative process but were too afraid to ask, now’s your chance. Dozens of painters, sculptors, photographers, and multimedia artists are ready and waiting to welcome you into their worlds. There will also be a collective exhibition of the participants’ work.

MUSIC │Soak in The Tunes At Jazz Sur Seine 2016

📅 Friday, October 7th – Saturday, October 22nd

For the fifth time, the jazz clubs of Paris will come together to celebrate the creative richness of this genre. Over the course of 16 days, 450 musicians will be in 150 concerts spread across 25 clubs in Paris and Île-de-France. Confirmed acts so far include Ballaké Sissoko and Vincent Segal, Michel Portal, Grégoire Maret, Keith Brown and Stéphane Belmondo, Diego Imbert, and Édouard Ferlet, and the full program is available on the website.

Tickets: A three-concert pass is €40, and a single show discovery pass is available to students, job seekers, and music students for €10.

LITERATURE │Watch Writers At Work At L’Amour d’Écrire En Direct

This annual live writing show has become somewhat of a sensation in France over the past nine years. Four writers are invited to create a piece of literature in front of an audience who, along with the moderator Marc-Michel Georges, are able to throw one or two literary ideas (or constraints) of their own into the mix.

MUSIC │Shout Oh, Mama! At The MAMA Festival 2016

📅 Wednesday, October 12th – Friday, October 14th

Three days, 12 venues, and 120 concerts all crammed into one tiny patch of Paris between Pigalle and Montmartre. The French and international acts at this neighborhood festival, some famous and others on the way up, represent a whole range of musical genres from rock, pop, and electro to folk and hip-hop. A convention for music industry professionals will also be running concurrently.

Tickets: €24 for a one-day pass and €52 for a three-day pass.

SCIENCE │Get Your Geek On At The Fête de la Science Sorbonne Universités

This science festival organised by the Sorbonne University is open to anyone of any age interested in the sciences. More than 150 researchers from Paris’ most prestigious research universities will be on hand to answer questions and show off their latest experiments. You can visit laboratories, listen in on debates and lectures, and generally broaden your mind to what’s going on in the world around you.

FESTIVAL │Voyage Around The World With The Villes Des Musiques Du Monde Festival

This month-long world music festival celebrates the frenetic energy and cultural exchange of the world’s port cities. Besides the vast variety of artists to discover in concert, there will be musical cruises, dance performances, workshops, debates and lectures, cooking classes, and film screenings to enjoy. CULTURE │Get Digi With It At Numok

The libraries of Paris’ digital festival is returning this October for its second edition. Over two weeks, there will be upwards of 200 different activities on offer to suit everyone from ardent technophobes to those who equate connectivity with oxygen. There will be workshops on digital art, video creation, coding, 3D-printing, computer generated music, and a whole lot more.

ART │See What’s New In Abstract Art At The Salon Réalités Nouvelles

📅 Sunday, October 16th – Sunday, October 23rd

This art fair has been bringing together international abstract artists since 1946. This year, 400 painters, sculptors, engravers, lithographers, and photographers will exhibit, many of whom have recently graduated from art school. There will also be a section dedicated to art and science, exploring issues related to climate change.

MUSIC │ Hear A Different Kind Of Sound At The Festival International des Musiques Corporelles

The International Body Music Festival was founded in 2008 and is produced every two years in the San Francisco and internationally in the years in between. It features contemporary and traditional body music – hambone, saman, Ethiopian armpit music, palmas, stepping, kecak, a cappella, beatboxing, throat singing, stepping, clapping, snapping, stomping, and singing – and is presented in concerts, workshops, and open-mic sessions.

Comic Con Paris follows on in the calendar of major pop culture events from New York and Chicago. Its first showing had in excess of 30,000 visitors and this next edition promises the very best of entertainment coming out of Europe. There will be plenty of panel shows, interactive demonstrations, new content to gawp over and stars of TV, film, and the comic book world to grab a selfie with.

CULTURE │Get Ready for Fall And Winter At The Foire d’Automne

Paris’ autumn fair brings 330 startups and other ultra-dynamic companies together for ten days of interactive workshops and other activities, teaching 100,000 people everything they need to know about the latest trends in the areas of interiors, food, and shopping. New to this year’s event are the Christmas Square, providing all the trimmings for a successful festive season, and a space dedicated to the seasonal cultures of Mexico.

MUSIC │Party All Night Long With Wankelmut

Wankelmut rose to prominence in the electronic music world with his 2012 remix of Asaf Avidan & The Mojos’ song Reckoning Song which went to the top of the charts across Europe. The DJ from Berlin is in town for one night only so have a disco nap, get your dancing shoes on and make the most of it!

FOOD │Treat The Kids To Something Tasty At #Bon

This is the first gastronomic fair for children in France and offers parents a smorgasbord of inspirational ideas for mealtimes, all the materials needed to prepare them and workshops run by renowned chefs on essential culinary techniques. There will also be loads for the kids to do, including a temporary restaurant in which they can blossom into apprentice cooks.

THEATER │Watch Marionettes Come To Life At The Again Festival

The Again Festival is two weeks dedicated to the puppet and popular characters from this particular branch of theater. The best French and international puppeteers will showcase classics of the Punch and Judy variety, as well as original performances which may change the way you feel about the most wooden of art forms.

TECH │Give Your Thumbs A Workout At Paris Games Week

Paris Games Week is a must-visit exhibition for gamers in the city and will feature all the big releases to look forward to in 2017 and the latest trends in the world of gaming. The sixth edition will also offer game accessories, virtual reality helmets, original manga screenings, and exclusive entertainment featuring a bunch of celebrities.

FILM │Celebrate Journée Mondiale du Cinéma d’Animation

A month of festivities begins to draw to a close with animated cinema day at the Centquatre in the 19th arrondissement. There will be two screening sessions of short films, workshops in which you can create your own animated film, roundtable discussions and the presentation of the Émile Reynaud Award for the best contemporary creation shown throughout the festival.

MUSIC │Get Your teeth Out At The Bal des Vampires

October 31st is, of course, Halloween. For the most part, it’s a much bigger deal in the anglophone world than it is here in France but you can be sure to find a fair amount of guisers out on the streets of the capital. Plenty of the city’s nightclubs will have a special evening planned, but the Bal des Vampires looks set to be by far the most lavish of these.
