The neighborhood of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement of Paris is famous as the home of some of the 19th and 20th centuries’ most famous artists, the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, and the Moulin Rouge cabaret. It also has some of the finest restaurants, bars, cafés, and galleries in the French capital. Read Culture Trip’s guide to the best hotels in the area.

Hotel Mercure Paris Montmartre Sacré Coeur

The Hotel Mercure Paris Montmartre Sacré Coeur is located on the western extremity of this historic neighborhood and a 1.2-kilometer (uphill) walk from the Sacré-Coeur. Closer attractions include the Montmartre Cemetery, the final resting place of Degas and Zola, along with the Moulin Rouge and the amazing restaurants of South Pigalle. The nearest metro station at Place de Clichy (not even 250 meters from the hotel) offers quick connections to the more touristy and shopping areas around the Champs-Élysées and Boulevard Haussmann as well as to the trendier neighborhoods in the 19th and 11th arrondissements. The large rooms boast panoramic views of Paris and the hotel also has a bar and fitness room that open onto a suspended garden.

Terrass Hotel

Not five minutes from the Mercure, on the opposite, northern side of the cemetery, is the equally stylish Terrass’’ Hotel. In business since 1911, the hotel’s best features, those that draw in crowds of Parisians every night of the week, are its rooftop bar and restaurant. The views across the city are unparalleled, and the expertly mixed cocktails aren’t bad either. The hotel has 85 bedrooms, seven suites, and a penthouse with a private balcony, a sauna and a jacuzzi. Even if you don’t choose to stay in any of its luxurious rooms, make a point of visiting the 7th floor at some point during your stay in Montmartre.

Chat Noir Design Hotel

Named after the famous 1920s cabaret that once resided in the same building, the Chat Noir Design Hotel has a literary theme, with each floor dedicated to a writer of the same era. Its 39 rooms are elegantly decorated in a simple palette of white, black and shades of red and orange. Some of them have a balcony with Eiffel Tower views. The hotel is on the southern edge of Montmartre and within a 10-minute walk from some of its main attractions like the Place du Tertre.

The hotel also offers a love-themed breakfast that is served in the dining room or directly to your room, for those not willing to vacate the bed. This is definitely one for a romantic getaway.
