Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Paris, the Domaine de Sceaux makes a perfect day trip from the hectic city. The Domaine contains a château (a rather uninspiring 19th-century rebuild of the Louis XIV-era original), but the main attractions here are the property’s sprawling gardens. Designed by André Le Nôtre, of Versailles and Tuileries fame, the magnificent grounds feature canals, fountains, and manicured lawns perfect for picnicking on a sunny day. The highlight? A field of cherry blossom trees that are unbelievably beautiful when in flower.
