Catacombs of Paris, Paris

<a href="http://theculturetrip.com/europe/france/paris/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Paris</a> has many, many different famous attractions, not least among them the Paris Catacombs, which house the remains of around six million past Parisians. Thanks to overflowing graveyards, the catacombs were built in the late 1700s to contain the dead, and some sections remain open to the public as a tourist attraction, though many are still private and closed, even though resourceful Parisians have found handfuls of secret entrances into the underground. Going in without a guide can be treacherous, however — it is very easy to get lost in the winding, massive tunnel system, and rumors abound that people have died trying to find their way out. Contraband concerts have also taken place in the catacombs, and it was officially used during World War II by both the Axis and the Allies.
