You don’t have to spend big bucks to enjoy the Cote d’Azur in Nice, one of the most celebrated cities on the Med. Stroll the Promenade des Anglais, visit a jazz club, admire the belle-époque architecture or hop on the train for an Italian day trip from one of these budget-friendly hostels in Nice – bookable on Culture Trip.

The beautiful southern city of Nice will forever be associated with the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera. With its pastel belle époque hotels, super-yachts in the old port and celebrity hangouts on every corner, one might be forgiven for thinking that a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais is reserved only for those with a bulging wallet. As these top hostels demonstrate, there’s plenty of room for those keen to enjoy the Cote d’Azur on a budget.

This colourful, friendly hostel in Nice is located in an excellent central spot, a few steps from the Promenade des Anglais. Additional useful freebies include wifi, luggage storage, maps and the use of beach towels, parasols and hats.

This guesthouse is set in a former Protestant temple, built in 1856, and there remains a chapel on the ground floor from where you may hear the Sunday sound of hymns. Choose between mixed or female-only dorms, or a private room with a double bed. For large group bookings of up to 16, the whole guesthouse can also be rented. Make the most of the cosy common room with a fridge, microwave and kettle, and enjoy your complimentary breakfast in the shady garden during the summer months.

Open House is one of the most popular hostels in Nice, thanks to its central location. Choose between four- or six-bed dorms, with female-only and private room options available. Bed linen, luggage storage and tea and coffee are all included in the price. Wander the nearby Promenade du Paillon with snacks from Marché aux Fleurs, Nice’s daily food market. This hostel is right around the corner from Place Massena, a great place to pick up cheap late-night snacks.

With its baby-blue dormitories and gingham chairs, Hostel Ozz is probably one of the most stylish choice for budget accommodation in Nice. The communal spaces are sleek and chic, with high stools and retro tables. However, it’s one of the furthest hostels from the beachfront (the prom is about a 15-minute walk) but it’s right by the train station – ideal for when you’re lugging heavy rucksacks.

Although not technically a hostel, the Ajoupa gets a mention because it’s such good value and ideal if you’re travelling with kids or just want to eat cheaply every evening. Rooms range from studios to two-bedroom apartments sleeping six, decorated in a contemporary Scandinavian style. The location, at the heart of downtown Nice, close to Place Massena, couldn’t be more central.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
