For those of you travelling to Biarritz on a budget or seeking accommodation that’s a bit more social than a hotel, the laid-back, communal vibe of hostels are just the ticket. Happily, Biarritz has no shortage of hostel accommodations thanks to its sweeping beaches and great surf, tempting groups and solo travellers alike into its waters throughout the warmer months. Here are five of the best hostels in Biarritz.

A favourite of travellers to Biarritz, Nami House is a traditional Basque house decorated with a melange of Hawaiian and Japanese styles. It has four dorm rooms – from three to five people per room – that all have their own storage to safely lock away any possessions. The atmosphere is what’s hard to beat here, with the staff relaxed and helpful in booking surf lessons or helping you plan your stay. There’s also some outside space to chill after a day on the coast. There’s table tennis, lots of slouchy seats and a continental breakfast is included in the price of the room. All amenities are less than five minutes away.
Situated just off the banks of Lac de Mouriscot and a quick 10-minute drive to the coast and the centre of Biarritz, HI Hostel Biarritz is particularly convenient for those doing a quick trip to this area of France and not wanting to get caught up in town (there is a lovely beach path that takes about 30 minutes from the hostel to the coast). The hostel offers free parking and WiFi, a complimentary breakfast is served each morning, and dorm rooms start from two beds to four. Just beware that during the summer months the hostel is used a lot by school groups so could be busy or not overly tranquil.
Surf Hostel Biarritz is a surfer’s paradise. Guests can enjoy a hearty breakfast each morning, free use of the hostel’s surfing gear and bikes, and hammocks in the communal chill-out spaces. They can also use the equipped kitchen, washing machine and dryer plus a computer station at their leisure. Generally there is a really calm, coastal feel to the whole place. In 20 minutes you can walk into the centre of Biarritz, and the beaches are under a 10-minute drive.
Surf Hostel Bidart lies just to the south of Biarritz (about 15 minutes by car) in the village of Bidart, and is the hostel on our list closest to the coast. Offering shared and private rooms, a fully equipped kitchen and free breakfast daily, it’s a great option for those wanting to stay outside of the hustle and bustle. At low tide, visitors can actually walk all the way along the sand to Biarritz centre; a beautiful walk, just make sure you don’t get caught out! Surf Hostel Bidart also contains a private three-bedroom apartment that can be rented on a weekly basis.
North of Biarritz and located right on the beach in Capbreton is the Body Surf House. A large decked terrace, sun loungers and a jacuzzi are the highlig/hosteldetails.php/Bodysurf-House/Capbreton/280795hts, with plenty of space inside and out for all guests to unwind. A free continental breakfast is served each morning in the attractive communal space and free WiFi is available throughout. Body Surf House has a reputation for always being super clean and is in a great location for all the popular surf spots. There’s also the option to reserve their private apartment that can host up to eight people.
