Tartu is a city of students and happy people who love to party and celebrate their lives. If you come to Tartu, don’t miss an opportunity to visit one of many amazing bars, taste local Estonian beer and snacks, or have a chat with friendly locals.

1. Bad Boys

Bar, Pub, Restaurant, Pub Grub

Bad Boys has everything you can expect from a good bar — delicious snacks, lots of beer, best sports events on TV, and a huge crowd! The prices are also low, so there is no risk of going bankrupt in one night! Also, their fried bread is to die for!

2. Wine and Vine

Bar, Wine Bar, Pub Grub, European

Do you like wine? Then you must visit Wine and Vine and have a deep and meaningful conversation with locals while enjoying your glass of wine. This place has become the locals favorite in no time, so you should not be surprised to see it completely crowded!

3. Zavood

Bar, European, Beer

Zavood is probably the most colorful bar in Tartu and is one of the most popular places among local bohemians. So if you want to see the artsy side of Tartu, you should definitely visit Zavood and have a drink or ten!

5. Illegaard

Bar, Pub Grub, European, Vegetarian, Estonian

Illegaard has everything you would want from a good bar, starting with juicy and inexpensive burgers and finishing with live sports on huge TVs. It is one of the oldest bars in Tartu, so if you want to taste the real Estonian nightlife, you must come to Illegaard and have a drink with locals!

6. Underground

Bar, European, Beer

If you enjoy loud rock music, strong beer, and men with beards, Underground is the place to be in Tartu! Naturally, you won’t meet casual students who listen to pop music in here because the crowd is more alternative and appreciative of underground culture.

7. Trepp

Bar, Pub, European, Beer

Trepp is a famous shot bar in Estonia where you can order different types of shots. There are even some Trepp’s special shots, which are only sold in this bar, so get ready to get drunk while tasting the brilliant work of the local bartenders. Trepp is usually the place to start your party, but if you can’t control yourself, you might end your night here as well.

8. Püssirohukelder

Bar, Restaurant, European

Püssirohukelder is a beer bar/restaurant, which is located in a historic Tartu building! The beer selection is probably the best in Tartu and the food is also pretty amazing since Püssirohukelder serves much more than just typical pub grub!

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
