Jazzhouse

One of the oldest Jazz venues in Copenhagen, Jazzhouse went through a dormant period when it was closed for a number of years. It is now once again open to the public. With its established reputation, Jazzhouse attracts big names in jazz from around the world and often offers concerts multiple times a week. The venue is split over two floors: the stage floor in the basement and the floor above hosting the cocktail bar where you can enjoy a dinner and a conversation. The patrons of Jazzhouse are usually very discrete and the atmosphere is respectful towards the musicians and other guests. The venue is also popular among different musicians visiting Copenhagen so do not be surprised to find yourself sitting next to local or international performers.

Lidkoeb

Located in a backyard in Vesterbro, Lidkoeb is a bit hard to find. However, if you keep your eyes open and manage to find your way into the cocktail bar, you will not regret it. The interior is finished with wood, leather and fur. The atmosphere is easy on the eyes, with light tones and plenty of illumination. A long bar, several private booths and a fireplace also await on the ground floor. Lidkoeb also has a stage area for jazz and piano bands. The venue upstairs has a separate whiskey bar with a really thorough selection of the finest single and blended malts from around the world. The whiskey bar opens later at around 10pm but cocktails are served downstairs all night.

Mikkeller & Friends

Mikkeller & Friends is a sister establishment of Mikkeller bar in Vesterbro. Not quite as dimly lit and posh as its older sibling, Mikkeller & Friends is a wonderful pub in Nørrebro to hide away from the winter weather.  A clean and functionalist Scandinavian design allows areas of the bar to be sectioned off for a more intimate feel. Mikkeller & Friends is big on space and tap beer, focusing on draft beers. The bar collaborates with many different micro-breweries offering a seasonal selection of more than 40 different beers on tap. For take-away they also have a dedicated bottle shop from where you can grab something for a gift or simply for enjoying at home.

Vinhanen

A fairly recent addition to the Copenhagen bar scene, Vinhanen is a dedicated wine bar and a shop. They have a unique business model to keep the prices of the wines as cheap as possible without sacrificing quality. Most wines are stored in large steel tanks right behind the bar and tapped straight into glasses. They generally have a changing selection of five wines on tap. Guests can also opt to buy a special reusable bottle for taking home your wine of choice. The interior of Vinhanen is simple and un-obscured with a colorful brick flooring and simple Scandinavian diner furniture. The uncomplicated tone of the bar adds to the feeling that Vinhanen is on a noble quest to bring good, affordable wine to its curious patrons.

Ølsnedkeren

If your mind is more set on a casual beer than a fancy cocktail, then Ølsnedkeren is the bar for you. Most of its wonderfully eclectic interior is gathered from second-hand markets around Copenhagen, made by hand from recycled wood or picked up from an abandoned bike shed. The bar itself offers an ever-changing and interesting selection of different beers mainly featuring Ølsnedkeren’s own brews. The proprietors have a tradition of brewing new beers every other week so the selection is innovative and brave. Perfect for a spontaneous catch-up with friends or just a ‘quick’ beer, the hours just fly by at Ølsnedkeren.

Portvinsbaren

Portvinsbaren is quite charming, and is Copenhagen’s only dedicated port wine bar. It offers customers a selection of more than 50 different port wines from the Douro region in Portugal. The bar itself is small, warm and dimly lit. Port wine is usually enjoyed with quality cheese, which Portvinsbaren offers. The excellent selection of cheese makes the ambiance more akin to a Parisian cafe than a bar. Do check out Portvinsbaren’s Facebook page for upcoming port tastings, where you can find out more about the drinks and meet people from some of the more famous wine houses.

Ruby

Ruby offers high-quality drinks in an original 1920s atmosphere. The menu here is pricey but you get what you pay for, as the quality of the cocktails is legendary. The bar itself is as cool as cocktail bars can get: the design is understated but classical, with leather armchairs, low tables and dim designer lighting. The layout of the bar is reminiscent of an apartment which adds to the homely mood of the venue. Cocktail tenders offer table service and you will really get a sense of being treated to an exquisite night out. Ruby is one of the hippest and coolest bars in Copenhagen, and if you are not on a budget, it is a definite must-visit.

The Jane

Both a cocktail bar and a nightclub, The Jane offers one of the classiest venues to go on a night out in Copenhagen. The bar downstairs is reminiscent of American speakeasies, with plush armchairs and leather bound domes filling antique bookcases. The Jane offers a chic vibe and a chance to enjoy some award winning cocktails. Later at night, some of the bookcases open up to reveal additional bars and a dance floor. If you are up for it, the bar will quietly get busier and busier as midnight approaches and The Jane turns into one of the coolest and more popular nightclubs in Copenhagen.
