Start this European cycling tour in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Meet your fellow travellers at a 6pm welcome meeting, but try to arrive earlier to see the city sights. Head to the beer halls for a fun night, but keep in mind that the cycling starts tomorrow.

After a guided orientation walk of Prague, travel to Ceske Budejovice by local transport. Once there, you’ll have a bike fitting to get your gear set for the rest of the tour. Then take a short ride to test it out. If there’s time after, explore the brewing traditions of the city with a Budweiser Budvar Brewery tour. Alternatively, visit the Black Tower, one of the most impressive landmarks in Budejovice. Ride Distance: Approx. 30km (19mi), mostly flat, approx. 200m (650ft) of elevation gain.

Cycle over picturesque rolling hills and through forests as you travel to Cesky Krumlov in the morning. Your afternoon is free to explore this beautiful medieval town on the Vltava River. Visit the castle, go on a brewery tour or – if you’re not too worn out from the ride – take a canoe trip on the river. Ride Distance: Approx. 35km (22 mi), mostly flat for the first 8km (5mi) then undulating, approx. 600m (1,970ft) of elevation gain.

Set off from Cesky Krumlov early today, riding along the Vltava River to the beautiful Lipno Lake, on the Czech-Austrian border. You’ll have time to wander around Lipno and Vltavou on the southern banks of the lake, before driving to Ardagger on the banks of the Danube. Your evening in this relaxed small town is free to explore on your own. Ride Distance: Approx. 42km (32 mi), mostly flat for the first 15km (9.3mi) then one long, but gradual, climb for 10km (6.2mi) before flattening out alongside the lake, approx. 680m (2,200ft) of elevation gain.

Today’s cycle ride takes you along the Danube, on a mostly flat course from Ardagger to Melk. After arriving in Melk, you have the opportunity to take an optional tour of Melk Abbey, a stunning baroque building with great views over the river Ride Distance: Approx. 53km (33mi), mostly flat, approx. 150m (500ft) of elevation gain.

Make use of the dedicated cycle paths as you ride along the northern banks of the Danube today. You’ll pass pretty small towns and villages, as well as the Unesco-listed Wachau vineyards, before arriving at Krems an der Donau. Ride Distance: Approx. 43km (27mi), mostly flat, approx. 220m (720ft) of elevation gain.

After a one-hour transfer to charming Tulln, join the Danube Cycle Path for the final push to the Austrian capital. The path is mainly downhill here. Once you’ve arrived in Vienna, you’ll be spoilt for choice as to which city attraction you should visit first. See world-class art at the Belvedere Gallery, or discover imperial history at Schonbrunn Palace. Relax at one of the cafes with a delicious sachertorte – you’ve earned it. Ride Distance: Approx. 40km (25mi), mostly flat/slightly downhill, approx. 100m (330ft) of elevation gain.

The tour finishes after breakfast, with no planned activities for the day. After saying goodbye to your fellow travellers, you’re free to depart and carry on the next stage of your journey – although you could easily spend another few days exploring the top sights in Vienna.
