Belgium’s national dish is frites. Everyone knows that fries go hand in hand with burgers, so try both at one of Brussels’s best burger joints.

Houtsiplou is an excellent place to go for a juicy, tasty burger. Beef, cheddar, BBQ sauce, smoked mozzarella, gorgonzola cheese, halloumi, breaded fish and ground duck breast are a few of the ingredients they use for their yummy burgers. There are also other meat and fish-based main courses, salads, and sandwiches available.

Located in the Ixelles area on the outskirts of Brussel’s city center, but still easily reachable for tourists staying in the old town, Hemgie’s is an excellent burger joint. They have an innovative approach to burgers, focusing on fusion and representation of different types of cuisine. Try the Italian-inspired Mona Lisa burger, served with mozzarella di buffala, pesto, balsamico and sun dried tomatoes, for something truly special. They have a great wine list and great beer from local breweries.

More expensive than most burger places, Bar Loui serves a delicious gourmet burger. This classy locale, situated in the Hotel Conrad, is frequented by businessmen and politicians, and serves great food – not just burgers. Chef, Frédéric Gonzalez uses a secret recipe sauce for the burgers served here. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is great, as is expected at a hotel of this type.
