Meetsies was born from a love of home-made cooking and social gathering. This start-up aims to bring together strangers around a great meal; it allows amateur cooks to organize dinner parties or take-away events and guests to find great food at much lower prices than at a restaurant. Meet the inspiring team behind the concept in our interview below.

Where did you get the idea to start Meetsies?

We all love cooking for others. In our families, home-cooked food is the center around which people gather and exchange. As we now live on our own and in cities, it is difficult to find such authentic, meaningful food.

Meetsies is the answer to this quest! It is a platform where local cooks can propose their good food and hungry neighbors can find dinners at home or yummy takeaways. We want to gather urban epicureans around the pleasure of cooking and sharing fresh cooked homemade food.

What have been the toughest obstacles in starting up the project?

Building a website! Many people underestimate the work that you have to put into building a beautiful and reliable platform. Bringing a beautiful idea to reality takes a lot of time, energy, passion and ….white nights! It is very funny that our friends sometimes think that we spend all day waiting for the dinner to come. But we can tell you that we are busy as bees during the day!

What are your hopes and plans for the future of Meetsies?

We want to extend our foodie community to other cities in the world. We are looking for “Mealvangelists”, which means people like us, interested to spread the love for cooking and eating home-cooked food to their city!

What would your last meal on earth be?

This is such an excellent question!

Ségo: For me it would be a brunch, starting with homemade pancakes and then a nice cheese platter with a glass of French red wine.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would you choose?

Nik: Immanuel Kant. I would just want to make sure that he made as little sense in real life as in his readings.

Peter: Jamie Oliver on the condition that we cook the dinner together. It’s always fun to see how Jamie talks with so much passion for food. And he seems to be a really nice guy too.

How would you describe Meetsies in 80 characters?

Meetsies is a community of people who love to eat and cook home-cooked food.

Quick-fire Questions:

Dracula or Dorian Gray?

Dracula! Poor guy was just a hungry person looking for good blood!

Impressionism or Cubism?

It depends on who. Ségo is definitely more impressionist whereas the two guys are pure rational cubists!

Countryside or city?

City, but not all cities. We love green cities where nature is present. Brussels is a good example of that.

Cupcakes or muffins?

Oh, we won’t be able to answer this question. It is just too difficult to choose! Or can we choose both?

Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?

Star Wars. At the start-up space where we are located, there are a lot of Star Wars objects so we live in a 100% Star Wars inspired environment. Welcome to the start-up world!

Instagram or Facebook?

Facebook. No doubt. We may be using it a bit too much, by the way!
