The cutesy kids’ maps of the world can be found in the book It’s a Big Big World. Published just 25 years ago (woo 90s!) the book presents an idealised, happy (yes, really) world without any prejudices or wars – about time no?
Instead of America being represented by a picture of Donald Trump, it’s illustrated with flowers, cowboys, forests, raging rivers and mountains.
Equally for places like the UK, Big Ben is shown as opposed to a 2017 version which would probably depict something along the lines of a post-Brexit nightmare (imagine what you will).
Africa is beautifully illustrated and highlights some of the continent’s most iconic nations and attractions: the Great Pyramids of Giza for Egypt and Zambia’s Victoria Falls to name a few.
Originally published in Spanish back in 1991, the feel-good book has been translated into dozens of languages including Polish, Hungarian, Afrikaans, German, French and Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Finnish, Russian and Portuguese.
Illustrated and drawn by André Labrie, Reddit users have been sharing their love of the book the world over.
And if you need a little happiness injection, you can buy the book here!
