10 Stunning Photos From The 2016 Siena International Photo Awards

Each year, the not-for-profit Siena Art Photo Travel association invites photographers to submit their best work to feature in the Siena International Photo Awards. During the month-long festival, photography lovers from around the world congregate in Siena to stare in awe at the jarring, inspiring and unbelievable work submitted from over 127 countries. The most beautiful pictures are displayed in a “Beyond the Lens” exhibit, showcasing photos that range from wildlife to portrait photography. This year, over 45,000 submissions poured in from around the globe. Here, Culture Trip shares 10 of the most stunning pictures to be featured.

This photo — an aerial shot showing a sea of colorful greenhouses near Nazilli, Turkey — was taken by photographer Leyla Emektar. Leyla waited until a Turkish farmer entered the frame before capturing the rolling waves of strawberry greenhouses.

French photographer, Greg Lecoeur, won the Siena Photographer of the year award with his breathtaking snapshot of the sardines migration along South Africa’s coast. The perfectly timed photo captures dolphins and seabirds dancing around the fish, looking for a meal.

This powerful photo was taken by photographer Isa Ebrahim during a funeral procession in the Bahrain village of Sitrah. The somber picture shows a Bahraini Muslim woman carrying her son, who drastically contrasts against the sea of black burqas. The funeral was for Isa Radhi, a Bahraini protestor killed during Martial Law in Sitrah Village back in 2011.

This intimate moment was captured by photographer Sanghamitra Sarkar in India. The photo depicts a local boy being painted in the style of Krishna in preparation for acting in a village drama.

This captivating photo by photographer Danny Yen Sin Wong was taken in a remote Vietnamese village near Phan Rang. The photo shows a local Vietnamese woman in the classical, conical hat tending to handmade fishing nets. The net appears to float around the woman in an almost surrealist fashion, lending the picture a sense of whimsy.

Another photo from colorful Vietnam, photographer Danny Yen Sin Wong captures three local woman walking along the Mui Ne sand dunes in the south of the country.

This incredible photo was photographed by Norwegian photographer, Audun Rikardsen, during winter in northern Norway. The photo shows local fishing boats catching herring, while a massive orca hovers beneath the surface of the water. Norwegian orca whales have grown accustomed to the sound of fishing boats hauling in nets of herring and will spend time by the vessels in hopes of snagging an easy meal.
