Hotel Colonial

Mayaguez is the third-largest city in Puerto Rico and is great for the urban experience and the ease of getting any supplies you need. It’s located on the west coast, within an hour’s drive of many of the most beautiful Caribbean beaches on the island, such as Buyé, Playa Sucia, and Crash Boat. Located in the historic district of Mayaguez, Hotel Colonial has smoke-free rooms, air conditioning, free wifi, and continental breakfast. At just $69 a night, this is a great place to dump your bags and hit the beach.

Casa Luna Guest House

Located in the heart of Old San Juan, just steps away from Castillo de San Cristobal, this adults-only guest house is the perfect place to hang your hat. There is so much history and are so many things to do, you can easily spend an entire week in OSJ and not do it all. From Casa Luna, everything is within walking distance. It is a cozy place with only nine guest rooms, and it has air conditioning and free wifi in the lobby. It is a great place to live economically, as each room has a kitchenette, microwave, small refrigerator and private bathroom. The rate is just $65 a night.

Hacienda Margarita

This gem in the interior of Puerto Rico is a paradise where you can spoil yourself with an outdoor pool and room service. The mountain views are breathtaking and the cooler temperatures may make this hotel the perfect getaway for the summer months. There are microwaves in the rooms, free wifi, free parking and air conditioning, so you’ll have all the comforts of home. Grills are also available if you would like to cook your own meals. Hacienda Margarita has a limited number of rooms available at $73 a night, and rates are better if you book directly from their website. They also have special rates if you stay on weekdays, and discounts for longer stays.

Howard Johnson Hotel Ponce

Ponce is a beautiful city, with so much history and amazing sights to see. After visiting the plaza and exploring Parque de Bombas and Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and enjoying a pincho from Jumbo’s, head back to the Howard Johnson and relax beside their beautiful pool. They have an indoor bar and an outdoor bar by the pool that is open on weekends and some weeknights. The rooms are a bit dated and do need some remodeling, but are still comfortable. At about $90 a night, it is a great place to stay.

Arecibo Inn

You can stay at the Arecibo Inn while you experience the northwest coast of the island on the Atlantic side. Enjoy breakfast at the inn before you head out to explore the Camuy Caves and the Arecibo Observatory, and relax poolside upon your return. Arecibo Inn has two pools: one for adults and one with water toys for the children. With free wifi, air conditioning, and continental breakfast, this hotel has everything you need.
