Golden Beach (Playa Dorada)

For a beach with a market at the end of it, visit Golden Beach, also called Playa Dorada. If you keep walking towards the north end, you will find plenty of resorts along the way. Teleferico Puerto Plata Cable Car

This is an exhilarating ride to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres. From the 800 meter-high cable car you can experience spectacular views of Puerto Plata, as well as the surrounding area. Once you reach the top, you can visit attractions such as the botanical garden, which has a cave, paths and lagoon. You can also visit the restaurant and gift shop for trinkets to remember your spectacular ride.

Damajaqua Cascades (27 Waterfalls)

The 27 waterfalls (27 Charcos de Damajagua) are the pinnacle of natural beauty combined with the amiable, kind people of the Dominican Republic. This is one of the best excursions of the island and can be done from the cruise ships. You can be picked up from the terminal gate if you choose, and everything – life-jackets, helmets, climbing gear etc – is provided in the tour price. The tour guides are extremely friendly and will inform you thoroughly about the falls. Once you reach the top, you can slide or jump down the waterfalls if you aren’t too afraid of heights.

The museum is well managed and the guides are extremely informative about the history of Puerto Plata, telling the story of General Luperon. Fort San Felipe

You can walk around the grounds of this fort and experience the historical feel of this island for free. From the top, you can get a beautiful view of the surrounding area and see far into the distance. Headsets are available for a self-guided tour around the fort. Take a picture of yourself standing next to the cannons and soak up the Dominican Republic’s history.
