About You

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced professional based in our London office to remotely manage a group of writers in various cities and countries (hubs) across the globe. As a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, you should have a desire to make a real impact on how millions of locals and visitors experience their cities via content and social media. We will need you to be methodical while retaining a creative edge for strategic brainstorming to find new, better approaches to ensuring the success of our hub system.
We offer an independent and dynamic working environment with plenty of potential to make an impact, and the opportunity to work on exciting content in cooperation with our four departments: editorial, social media, commercial and tech. You will form part of the Hub Management Team, reporting directly to the Director of Hub Operations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Remotely manage and lead a group of freelance writers spread out across a particular region of the world and under the supervision of the Director of Hub Operations.
  • Develop useful, inspiring and insightful stories to commission across your portfolio of cities/countries, strategically gearing your content towards search engine optimization and social media optimization.
  • Oversee the editorial output of the cities/countries you manage, paying careful attention to issues related to both quality and quantity of content.
  • Work alongside a Senior Copy Editor to ensure all content is published free of mistakes and adheres to our in-house style and image guides.
  • Support the Hub Management Team in the recruitment of freelance writers on a regular basis.
  • You will work with content across the following genres: travel, food, fashion, art, design, film, literature, music, real estate & architecture, sports, tech & entrepreneurship, and health & wellness.
  • Collaborate with the editorial, commercial, social media and web analytics teams on articles pertaining to specific interests and genres.
  • You will need to evaluate and revise systems under pressing deadlines, and in short, dynamic, test-driven runs

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in media and/or publishing as a content editor or editorial manager.
  • Exceptionally strong in editorial, with an eye for compelling ideas for content across a selection of locations and interests .
  • Excellent management, organizational and people skills are an absolute must.
  • Previous remote management experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of what makes a great piece of content and how to engage readers with excellent copy.
  • Exceptionally strong copy-editing skills with a sharp eye and an allergy to typos, grammatical mistakes and stylistic inconsistencies.
  • Strong understanding of the differences between social media and search engine optimized content.
  • Specialist knowledge on at least one of the following regions: Europe, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, South & Southeast Asia, East Asia, Oceania & the Pacific, North America, South America.
  • Knowledge of unreported territories is desirable.
  • Familiarity with WordPress is essential.
  • Aptitude for web analytics is desirable, including experience with Google Analytics or other related software.
