Whether you’re looking for a few cuts and tucks on an off-the-rack piece or a fully canvassed bespoke suit, here’s the lowdown on the best tailors in Bangkok.

People travel from all over the world to have their suits custom-made along Bangkok’s famous Sukhumvit Road. This list contains not only the best tailors in Bangkok, but also those who use 3D body-scanning technology, celebrity fashion designers who specialise in tailoring, couturiers who trained with Paris’s Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari’s tailor – what more could a sartorialist want?

The perfect bespoke suit starts with choosing the right fabric

1. Vvon Sugunnasil for high-quality French tailoring

Shop

Vvon Sugunnasil’s suits are on every magazine cover in the city. He’s a rising star on Bangkok’s fashion scene and has quickly become one of the most-wanted tailors in town. Not only are his suits tailored to perfection, but his creations are also exceptionally designed. After spending a year in Paris studying the workings of an atelier, his suits tend to lean towards traditional French tailoring. He makes both men’s and women’s bespoke suits out of everything from silk and satin to English Dormeuil wools and his runway collections are also available for preorder through his website. Don’t expect walk-in service – there is a three-week waiting list, so booking ahead of time is definitely advised.

2. Nipon Pila, the retro-classicist tailor with a vintage twist

Shop

Nipon Pila is not your typical tailor. His craft is truly his passion – and you can see it in his designs. His pieces are reminiscent of 1970s Yves Saint Laurent and have been worn by many Thai celebrities. They have an enduring appeal and have gained an almost iconic status among Bangkok’s sartorialists – if you have a flair for style, this is the place to go. Offering everything from velvets to wools, Pila has a demiurgic approach to design that will guarantee a timeless piece that will forever be a staple in your wardrobe. If you don’t know what you want, Nipon Pila will offer his own ideas.

3. Narin Couture for fully canvassed couture suits from a classically trained tailor

While the word ‘couture’ is so often used inaccurately, the adjective in Narin’s case is both earned and merited. He is one of the few tailors in Bangkok to have trained at Paris’s Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in both construction and design, and offers full canvassing for suits. His tailoring is traditional, artisanal and built to last a lifetime. A rush job at this atelier is not an option, so expect your suit to take the time it needs.

4. Parrish Jones for quick service, a precise fit and a great price

Shop

A classic western atelier with 3D body-scanning technology, this luxury tailor’s shop and lounge offers suits with a precise fit – and fast. Parrish Jones is a one-stop shop offering tailored suits ready within a week, ready-to-wear shirts, jeans, leather shoes, bags and belts, not to mention accessories such as cufflinks, pocket squares, ties and socks. Consultations with stylists are also available over a drink or snack while you shop.

5. Pinky Tailor for those who know exactly what they want

Shop

Don’t let the worn storefront fool you; Pinky Tailor’s three-storey shop is a favourite among diplomats and fashion editors. He is even designing Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari’s fashion brand for men – and has an honourable mention on just about every list of notable tailors in Bangkok. This is the place to go if you have a distinctive style and know exactly what you want. There are usually a lot of people in the shop, so be sure to set an appointment to get the attention you need.

6. Park Lane British Tailors for a tailoring service that comes to your hotel

Shop

Recommended by many, this British made-to-measure atelier first set up shop over 30 years ago in the heart of Sukhumvit. With fabrics running from luxurious sea island cotton to Vitale Barberis Canonico and Dormeuil, there is a large selection to choose from at this bespoke tailor, and you can even find sample previews on their website. They can also come straight to you or your hotel for a free consultation, making it a simple matter to choose and tailor your shirts and suits.

7. The Decorum Bangkok, a shop that flies in tailors from around the world

Shop

The Decorum in Ari hosts trunk shows lasting from one to three days, where world-famous tailors offer a preview of their up-and-coming designs to potential customers. Brand names on show often include Higashi in Osaka, Sartoria Dalcuore, Igarashi Trousers, Sartoria Raffaniello and Huntsman Savile Row. They offer full canvassing, but only by appointment.
