The one-bedroom suites at Adelphi Forty-Nine have all the comforts of home (kitchens, bathtubs, laundry facilities), plus a few extras – and we’re not just talking about the hi-tech Japanese toilets. The rooftop pool has great views of the city, and you get discounted massages at the Oasis Spa at the end of the street. Also, head to theCOMMONS, a community-minded space with a cluster of the coolest restaurants in Thonglor.

2. Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55

Independent Hotel

The self-proclaimed largest onsen hotel in Thailand, palatial Grande Centre Point certainly puts the emphasis on wellness, with a whole floor dedicated to onsen pools and spa treatment rooms. Alas, you can’t have a glass of bubbly in the hot tub as the hotel is dry; walk 10 minutes south to the bar Thaipioka to get your cocktail fix in a swanky-looking locale – the chocolate ginger negroni and bird’s eye chilli G&T add a spicy twist to two classics.

3. Augusta Hostel

This “poshtel” run by friendly host May is calm and quiet, and features a cosy lounge and rooftop terrace. Need a little nightlife? Augusta is close enough to the clubs and bars of Thonglor if that’s what you’re looking for. Soi Cowboy is just an eight-minute taxi away – this raucous clubbing street was featured in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and The Hangover Part II (2011).

5. Holy Sheet Hostel

Khao San Road isn’t the only place to meet other backpackers in Bangkok, and Holy Sheet Hostel proves it. It’s a super social place, with a young, fun-loving host – but it’s far from being a grimy party hostel. Rooms are clean and comfy (female-only dorms have double beds), and there’s a PlayStation 4 and Apple TV in the common room if you’re having a cosy night in. Night still young? Sample some brews at nearby Wishbeer, the largest craft beer bar in Bangkok.

6. Hostel@Thonglor

With a sleek, modern touch, this hostel breaks the perception of Bangkok hostels as dark and dingy, à la Leonardo DiCaprio’s Khao San abode in The Beach (2000). Clean and bright, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the Thong Lor BTS station and is surrounded by the excellent Japanese eateries for which the area is known. A cosy common room, with a modern brick layout and soaring ceiling, is equipped with workspaces and a guest lounge.

7. Barn and Bed Hostel

With the BTS station outside the front doors, this value-for-money hotel couldn’t be more convenient. Get your caffeine fix and a Thai-style breakfast in the stylish downstairs café, before jumping on the train to explore Bangkok, or wandering the nearby side streets to find some of the best street food in the city. Alternatively, take in the view from the tranquil rooftop.

9. PlayHaus Thonglor

This boutique hotel channels every ounce of Thonglor’s inner artiness through show-themed rooms, modelled after Romeo and Juliet (1996), Mary Poppins (1964), Aladdin (1992) and the Thai musical See Pan Din. The downstairs bar, Behind the Scene, is dimly lit – styled after a dressing room to complete the theatrical theme – and serves delicious signature cocktails such as the dark and tropical Obstructed Love, inspired by Romeo and Juliet.

10. The Salil Hotel

Boutique Hotel

Embracing a Victorian elegance with a modern twist, the Salil offers beautiful rooms delivered with panache; think sink-into-me beds, floral wallpapers and spa-like bathrooms. Further pleasures are found in a delightful rooftop pool/jacuzzi space with cityscape views and artificial grass. Dining leans towards the spectacular, too, with a classical European-inspired café and a French-style tea room.

11. Aster9 House

Boutique Hotel, Budget Hotel, Bed and Breakfast

This adorable townhouse channels the bed and breakfast vibe of quaint American cottages. Perfect if you’re after a little extra privacy (without paying the big baht for a luxury hotel), Aster9 has a beautiful interior and comfortable amenities to create a true home-from-home experience, the spell only interrupted by stunning Bangkok city views.

12. Cabochon Hotel and Residence

Boutique Hotel, Hotel, Luxury

This concept residence ranks high on the list of Bangkok’s luxury-for-value lodgings. A colonial design meshes old-world charm with contemporary comfort, sporting brass chandeliers and antique typewriters among the 1920s-inspired decor. If you can pull yourself from the stylish rooms, there’s an elevated garden, vintage boutique, library and rooftop pool. And if you’re keen to explore Bangkok, the prime location allows for easy access to transportation and main attractions.

13. Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor

The prime location aside, Somerset Sukhumvit exudes modern tasteful style. Rooms are spacious, and the building is fit with all the amenities you need, including a gym and steam and sauna rooms, plus an indoor playroom for kids. But the crowning glory of the hotel is an incredible infinity pool, offering beautiful views of bustling Thonglor from nine storeys above.
