The Best Cafes and Coffee Shops in Phetchaburi, Thailand

Kyle Hulme

Whilst it might not have the bright lights of Bangkok, the islands of Krabi and Surat Thani or even the food of Isaan, there’s still enough to see and do in Phetchaburi to keep you busy. With its stunning caves, sprawling jungle and the odd scenic beach here and there, ample opportunities for exploration and adventure await you in Phetchaburi, and here are the best cafes and coffee shops to keep you fueled and ready to go.

1. Pagoda Caffe

Whilst much of Phetchaburi has yet to modernise and is as traditional as they come, Pagoda Caffe certainly bucks the trend. Comfortable seats both outside and inside in the air-con make it an ideal place to recover after trekking a national park, and there’s always a selection of cakes and treats to go with your quality coffee too. Its minimalist decor sets the cool tone, and the potted plants around the cafe create a calming atmosphere. Clean, cosy and modern, it’s a little slice of Bangkok in sleepy Phetchaburi province and should be the first port of call for any coffee addict visiting the region.

2. Petch Cafe and Bakery

A classic Thai cafe serving brightly coloured Italian sodas, a range of hot and iced coffees and sickly sweet Thai tea drinks, Petch’s Cafe and Bakery is perfect for those who were born with a sweet tooth. There are plenty of freshly baked cakes and treats to enjoy in the cafe or take home, though they also serve Thai classic meals such as pad Thai if you have more of an appetite. With its friendly staff, tasty treats and low prices, it’s certainly worth a visit if you’re in this neck of the woods, and after trekking through Kaeng Krachan National Park, you’ve more than earned it.

3. Swiss Palazzo

Although a full-fledged restaurant as well as a cafe, we feel you’ll forgive us for including it once you’ve tasted its goods. Its Swiss chef ensures that there’s a great deal of authenticity and quality coming through in Swiss Palazzo’s Italian mains, coffee and desserts, and it’s a job well done since the high quality is evident in every mouthful. A small, modern place in an old-fashioned town, going here is like stepping out of Thailand and into Europe. The interior is distinctly European, the menu Italian and the coffee freshly brewed. For a real treat, check out the ice cream — the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of joe on a warm, Thai day.

5. The Garage Cafe

A modern interior of exposed brick walls, hanging lights and shabby-chic furniture awaits at The Garage Cafe, a hip coffee shop serving a range of hot and cold drinks and food. There’s a type of coffee for everyone here as well as a large food menu serving delicious Thai, Western and fusion food that shouldn’t be missed. With plenty of seating space inside, and scenic green spaces to enjoy outside, it’s perfect for groups or as a place to come and get some work done whilst taking in your caffeine fix at the same time. Affordable, fun and friendly, it attracts a young crowd but everyone’s welcome at the Garage.

6. Three Faces Pizza and Coffeebar

Located by beautiful Cha-Am beach, it’s a cafe and restaurant in a prime location serving some of the highest quality food and drinks available. Modern, white and clean, it features a seating area inside as well as outside, where guests can enjoy the peace of the water feature and potted plants. As the name might suggest, pizza is a specialty here. There are plenty of other food options as well, and it’s also a wonderful coffee bar, making all the usual drinks to a much higher level of quality than its competitors. Western vibes in a Thai beach town, it’s a great place for a coffee and a chat after spending the day on the beach or for something a little more filling.

7. Lavender Coffee&Bakery

A cute coffee shop and bakery in the heart of Phetchaburi, it’s a must-visit for those with a sweet tooth. From cookies to cakes and various other Thai desserts, there’s a huge amount of choice, which can be a bit of a headache, until you realise the prices are so cheap you can afford to sample quite a few (and put on everything you burned from you national park treks in the process). Its treats and drinks are impeccably presents, making it difficult to take the first bite but perfect for social media. Conveniently located in ‘Big C’, it’s easy to get to, and you’ll be glad you did when you take a look at the fridges. Go on, treat yourself.
