What is Sretsis?
This well-known, international brand officially started in 2002. Sretsis, which is sisters spelled backward, was created by none other than three, passionate siblings. The three sisters each bring a unique strength and skill to the table of the Sretsis brand. Sretsis’ creative director, Pim Sukhahuta, is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and has been designing clothes since a very young age. She even sewed her younger sister’s prom dress. Elder sister Kly has a degree in magazine publishing, which she utilizes to handle all marketing-related affairs. The youngest sister, Matina, contributes her very own Sretsis Jewelry line.
Portraitures Of The Beloved Tamed
Their latest endeavor is their Autumn-Winter 2016 collection titled, Tamed Lovers. This collection was inspired by those love stories that are familiar to most, including Romeo and Juliet, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Johnny Depp and Kate Moss, and more. These couples, whom Sretsis’ websites refers to as, ‘instantly electrifying first-name-only couples,’ inspired the idea in this collection that opposites attract.
‘I’m really crazy about John and Yoko,’ Matina said. ‘I see them, and they don’t ever want to be away from each other, not for one minute.’
The collection is also inspired by The Unicorn in Captivity. This textile is one of the only ones to survive the Middle Ages. It is part of seven tapestries known as The Hunt of the Unicorn, which are regarded as some of the most beautiful tapestries of all time. The last and most famous tapestry portrays a mythical creature surrounded and seemingly trapped by a low fence. The creature is not trapped, however, but is deliberately deciding to stay within the boundaries of the fence, a personification of love. Sretsis took this idea, as well as celebrating the magic within the textile, to design Tamed Lovers. Many of the pieces in this collection have the similar, whimsical forest pattern throughout, showcasing both the unicorn as well as a lion. Get lost in whimsical, floral prints, portraying the love story between the lion and unicorn. ‘We are always inspired by everything in life,’ Matina said. ‘This one just happened to be major romance.’
Sretsis showcased its newest collection in a stunning portraiture exhibition. This exhibition was put on in collaboration with photographer Kong Pantumachinda and illustrator Terawat Teankaprasith.
The above painting is entitled Dream Wave. It reads, ‘The endless love and trust between these sisters evoke a power so bold and unbreakable it defies words and reason. Merging together like an omnipotent entity that share dreams and visions of a utopic world filled with love and magic.’ To see more of their collection, check out their website.
