Home to the ever popular Taipei 101 and countless high-end stores and boutiques, Xinyi District in Taipei City has a reputation for being one of the most expensive areas in the city. And while the neighborhood’s many bars, clubs, and restaurants uphold this reputation, there are quite a few inexpensive places to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here are some of the best.

1. Long Yue Xuan

Restaurant, Vietnamese

An authentic Vietnamese restaurant with a menu that includes classic Vietnamese dishes alongside some local Taiwanese favorites. The meals are cheap and freshly prepared right in front of you, and while the place is certainly popular, you won’t have to wait too long for your meal.

2. Zhenxiang Beef Noodles

A small local noodle shop with a simple menu comprising local soup and noodle favorites. Open for both lunch and dinner, this place is hugely popular with local office workers, and you may find that at lunch time you might have to wait for a while. It’s worth it!

3. Lin Jia Yao Beef Noodles

Restaurant, Asian

A small family-run restaurant famous for its authentic Taiwanese style beef noodle soup. The owner cooks up the noodles to order, and the meats are said to be tasty and of the finest cuts. This cheap little noodle shop has proved so popular that it has even been featured on local TV shows.

5. Tong Chang Dumpling House

Restaurant, Asian

A small local restaurant that specializes in traditional Taiwanese dumplings. Customers can watch staff prepare the dumplings by hand as they wait for their meal. The dumplings are said to be some of the best in the city, but that’s not all that’s on offer here. Other dishes include a choice of soups and fried rice among many others.

6. Jinxian Braised Pork

This family-run restaurant serves a variety of local Taiwanese dishes, but its specialty of braised pork over rice has made it a huge hit with the locals. The food is seriously tasty, and, while the portions may not look huge, it’s really very filling. Perfect lunch or dinner option.

7. Gleaners Bakery & Kitchen

Restaurant, Asian, Italian

This popular bakery also has its own restaurant serving both local and international made-to-order dishes. From the outside, it looks like any other bakery, but take a step inside and you’ll find a wonderful little restaurant with some pretty amazing dishes at very reasonable prices. On your way out you can buy some of their delicious freshly baked bread. Perfect spot at any time of the day.
