Sometimes referred to as the Gem of the East Coast, Hualien is one of Taiwan’s more relaxed cities. With such a laid back way of life and so many interesting local attractions, it’s easy to see why this city is a popular tourist destination. And as such the city is full of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses and here are some of the very best.
The Leaf Inn

With its industrial style concrete exterior, The Leaf Inn doesn’t seem like the most appealing of hotels but underneath that minimalist veneer you’ll find a true gem in the heart of Hualien. This hotel is ultra-modern with some really tasteful decor in both the public areas and the rooms. Each has its own particular style and for a hotel in this price bracket, they are pretty luxurious.

The industrial theme is prevalent once again in this affordable hostel that’s also located just a short walk from Hualien train station. Hualien WOW Hostel offers modern comforts in a building that feels something like a re-purposed factory. There are exposed walls and even an old shipping container door but don’t let that put you off. This place is very cool and has great clean shared and private rooms along with a quirky lounge area.

The people at this place really love helping out visitors to the area and you’ll get some wonderful insider tips on the city. The hostel itself is also quite impressive with great rooms and lots of little nooks and seating areas where you can work out your sightseeing plans for the next day.
