As the saying goes, ‘laughter is the best medicine’ and most of us want to have a good laugh. The stand-up comedy scene in Malaysia is slowly growing by having open mic nights at live venues and annual LOL Fest and Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival (KLICFEST). Here are the Malaysian comedians that will make you laugh.
Harith Iskandar is known as the godfather of Malaysian stand-up comedy. He has been performing for more than 20 years and continues to come up with unique jokes loved by local and global audiences. His impersonations and comedic actions along with ‘situation’ jokes will make you laugh so much your stomach hurts. He is the winner of Laugh Factory’s 2016 Funniest Person in the World and Asia’s Best Stand-up Comedian Award by Top 10 Asia Award 2014. He is also the host of his own show ‘Obviously Harith Iskander’ where he interviews celebrity guests and showcases his humour.

He had sold-out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2015 and 2016. This year he has his first solo show (for four nights) ‘You Stupid or What?!’ in Malaysia. He uses his medical background to make jokes about health and lifestyle. He actively performs together with the MACC members.
The Queen of Comedy Joanne Kam is not afraid to tell witty, sassy, and sexy jokes to the audience. Dressed in tight fitting sequin dresses and shiny accessories, she performs with her unique sharp-tongued humour. She is one of the well-known female comedians in Malaysia. She has performed together with Singaporean comedians (including Gurmit Singh and Kumar) in ‘Laugh Die You’. She organized the Super Kam stand-up comedy show series that featured only female comedians (including herself). She appeared in Malaysia’s stand-up comedy shows ‘Tonton Stand Up’ and ‘Oi! Jaga Mulut’. She currently runs her own radio show ‘Seriously Kam’ with comedians Papi Zak and Kavin Jay.
Kavin Jay frequently performs on Kuala Lumpur’s comedy scene, including Crackhouse Comedy Club. His constant flow of grumpy jokes, based on his everyday experience in Malaysia and his travels, will make you burst out laughing. He has done opening acts for Harith Iskander, Douglas Lim, and Singaporean comedian Kumar. He has appeared in Malaysia’s all-English stand-up comedy show ‘Komediri’. He founded One Mic Stand PJ Live Arts which features up-and-coming stand-up comedians every week. He made his first one-night only show ‘Daddy Issues’ at Bobo KL, one of Kuala Lumpur’s live venues.
