Buri: Standing Bar & Restaurant
One of Ebisu’s liveliest spots, Buri claims to be the number 1 standing bar in Tokyo. Choose from a wide selection of sake, spirits and cocktail favorites. Besides the drinks, Buri is known for its delicious izakaya-style eats.
Goodbeer Faucets has a wide selection of beers (over 40 on draft) and a decent menu. They’re a casual watering hole with a new take on the ‘tab’ – a numbered card tallies up your fees. The number one complaint about Goodbeer Faucets is that it closes a bit early, around midnight.
MINT – SHIBUYA (Card Game Bar)
MINT is a small, cozy bar for trading and playing card games, from Magic: The Gathering to swapping the latest baseball cards. They also have a shop section for collectibles and new stock, if anyone is looking to add to their deck. A great choice for a change of pace and a different sort of night out. MINT usually closes early at around 11 PM.
Sasagin is a favorite for Japanese sake and local spirits. Newcomers to the world of nihonshu (Japanese liquor) need not be afraid – the drink menus at this izakaya are available in English and the staff are always more than happy to provide recommendations.
XEX is known for its smooth, live music performances as well as its legendary patio. In the summer, the outdoor reflecting pools and warm light from the lanterns creates a distinct island vibe, transporting patrons to an exotic paradise.
Caesarion is an upscale cocktail bar not far from Yoyogi Park. Dresscode is smart – a dress shirt is required, so it’s the perfect place to stop for a drink after work. Here, owner Toshiaki Tanaka serves up classic drinks with style, as well as a few inventions of his own.
Ishino Hana BAR
Ishino Hana is owned and operated by an award-winning mixologist, Shinobu Ishigaki. The bar is upscale yet relaxed – the website humorously warns, ‘no Jäger bombs, no bombs of any kind’. Many of the cocktails are the owner’s original creations and won’t be found anywhere else in the city.
Laidback Bar Flat is set up in a quiet corner of Shibuya and is a favorite among students. For a 500 yen cover charge, patrons can enjoy all-you-can-eat snacks. Bar Flat is famous for their homemade Moscow Mule, excellent service, and comfortable atmosphere. Smoking is allowed.
