Not only is Kolkata a hot spot for excellent food and innovative culinary traditions, but the City of Joy has also fostered multiple talented Indian chefs who have put the city’s and country’s cooking on the global map. Here is a list of some of Kolkata’s finest chefs to keep an eye out for.

Ritu Dalmia

This celebrity chef is a well-known figure even outside the culinary world primarily because of her many popular TV cooking and travel shows. As chef and co-owner of Diva, the acclaimed Italian restaurant chain in Delhi, Kolkata-native Ritu Dalmia successfully established her mastery of Italian cooking – for which she was awarded the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity by the Italian government. She has also written several popular cookbooks on Asian, European and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Vikramjit Roy

Chef Vikramjit Roy, best known as the Head Chef of the much-celebrated progressive Asian restaurant Tian – Asian Cuisine Studio at the ITC Maurya hotel in New Delhi. The celebrity chef from Kolkata has worked with restaurants across Southeast Asia, where he mastered new food formats and the art of blending flavors – an art he’s brought to Tian.

Sushanta Sengupta

As founder of the super popular 6 Ballygunge Place, Chef Sushanta Sengupta has carved an unmatched spot for himself in the rich Kolkata culinary scene. This master and successful promoter of Bengali cooking received his degree in Hotel Management from the Institute of Hotel Manangement, Kolkata, and has worked with major restaurants around the country.

Sharad Dewan

As Regional Director of Food Production for The Park Hotel, award-winning celebrity Chef Sharad Dewan is the brain behind some of the finest culinary offerings in Kolkata. After graduating from the Institute of Hotel Management, New Delhi in 1993, Chef Dewan has worked with several popular restaurants across the country, including The Park for almost a decade.
