Updated: 5 April 2017
A rich cultural mix runs deep into the fabric of Chennai—people from different states and with myriad languages call it home. From traditional Kanjeevaram sarees to Bharatanatyam performances, Carnatic concerts to celebration of holi, and hot dosas to religious processions—a day spent in Chennai will take you on a cultural roller-coaster.

North Chennai has a significant Hindi speaking population and a very different culture to the south of the city. The neighbourhood of Mylapore has a good number of Hindus, while Triplicane has more Muslims. The city has a very distinct yet fleeting cultural aura and its true essence can be felt in ways that are otherwise overlooked. Let us take you on a tour around the city with these pictures.
