Summer is in full swing in Hong Kong this August, with a whole variety of things to do. From music festivals to art galleries, a giant food exhibition and unique ways to beat the summer heat – we’ve got you covered. Here’s our pick of the hottest events in town.

ENTERTAINMENT | ICBC (Asia) e-Sports and Music Festival Hong Kong

EMF is the first of its kind festival in Asia that combines the biggest names in e-Sports, alongside the biggest names in K-pop, for a three-day festival at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

THEATRE | International Arts Carnival

Numerous visiting and local artists present fun-filled arts performances including acrobatics, bubble shows, shadow puppets and theatre in this month long carnival.

Art enthusiasts will not want to miss this rare opportunity to see 500 of the world’s masterpieces of ink paintings. There are also seminars by well-known local and overseas artists, a multi-media zone and guided tours to encourage audiences to learn and appreciate more about the art form.

DANCE | Salsa Summer Party

If the warm summer sun puts you in the mood to salsa then you’ll feel right at home at this celebration of the hot Carribean dance style. There will be live performances from World Salsa Championship dancers, a salsa DJ set and a free workshop for visitors to try out basic dance steps.

This three-day festival celebrates Hong Kong’s biggest indie musicians across four stages. While music is the main draw, with the likes of Dear Jane, Supper Moment and Nowhere Boys all scheduled to perform, there’s also art, food, a craft market and family festivities.

ART | I ♥ Hong Kong Exhibition

To celebrating the 20th anniversary of HKSAR Establishment Day, YellowKorner is showcasing the best urban street photography shots taken in Hong Kong. FOOD & DRINK | Food Expo 2017

Foodies cannot afford to miss Hong Kong’s biggest food exhibition. The annual fair gathers over a thousand exhibitors with delicacies and the finest selection of foods from every corner of the world. The five-day event also features cooking demonstrations by prominent chefs, forums on a variety of topics such as nutrition and food safety, plus games and competitions. There’s also a “Gourmet Zone” where visitors can sample some of the finest foods from around the world.

MUSIC | DNCE Live in Hong Kong

Monday, August 14

Fronted by Joe Jonas (of Jonas Brothers fame) DNCE is an American funk-pop party band who released their debut single two years ago and have since gone multi-platinum. They’ll be pumping out their anthemic tunes during their first Hong Kong gig at Macpherson Stadium.

COMEDY | Kenny Sebastian

Saturday, August 19

Rising Indian stand-up comedian Kenny Sebastian has been changing the face of comedy in India with his hilarious observations of culture, people and stereotypes. he’ll be bringing plenty of laugh for his first Hong Kong show.

MUSIC | G-DRAGON 2017 World Tour

The rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer and fashion icon is the biggest thing to come out of Korea since Psy’s Gangnam Style. He’s currently embarking on his second world tour “Act III, M.O.T.T.E ‘Moment of Truth The End’ World Tour” which touches down at Hong Kong’s Asiaworld Expo arena August 25-26. It’s the largest concert tour ever undertaken by a Korean artist. Catch him while you can!

The hot August heat calls for a novel way to cool off and Ocean Park has just the solution. Throughout August, the theme park’s Applause Pavilion will be transformed into a sandy beach for you and your mates to enjoy some watery fun and get drenched in games like the Mega Gush, Super Spray Tunnel and Wild Foam Zone, as well as an inflatable obstacle course. While you dry off, check out the giant sand sculptures, said to be a highlight of this year’s annual summer festival.
