There’s never been a better time to eat out in Sai Ying Pun, one of Hong Kong’s most up-and-coming dining destinations. This historic district’s restaurants represent everything from hipster coffee shops to refined Indonesian cuisine to laid-back tapas bars. With new eateries cropping up left and right, here is a selection of the best of the bunch for you.

An outpost of the famous Bali beach club of the same name, Potato Head’s gorgeous 8,000-square-foot space consists of a bar, mini-store, and music lounge, as well as the Indonesian restaurant Kaum. The food here brings together the authentic traditional cuisine of various Indonesian tribes, and it can all be paired with Potato Head’s acclaimed cocktails, which are inspired by Indonesian flavors. This restaurant is buzzing with customers at any time of the night, and combined with the evocative décor (including handcrafted ceiling tiles made by the Torajan people of South Sulawesi), it makes for a lively dining experience.

Headed by Guillermo Trullas Moreno, La Paloma is this much-heralded chef’s second restaurant in the city. It’s a casual Spanish restaurant with an open and cheerful vibe, featuring wood accents, brightly colored chairs and light fixtures, and happy-go-lucky string lights. The menu features a large selection of refined tapas and is divided into categories, including signatures, greens, oven-baked dishes, and desserts. Keep an eye out for the Kingfish tiradito with avocado and green chili sauce.

If you couldn’t already tell from its name, fish is the byword at the modern seafood eatery Fish School, which pays homage to Hong Kong’s historical status as a humble fishing village. Opened by seasoned restaurateur Yenn Wong and Chef David Lai, this elegant and intimate spot is bound to satisfy your craving for top-quality crustaceans. The menu features fresh, locally sourced seafood served in tapas-style portions, such as octopus and prawn ceviche, chargrilled razor clams, crispy Sicilian prawns, and more. There’s also an extensive drinks list filled with innovative cocktails to accompany the food.
