Hong Kong 101: Delightful Delicacies from Dundas Market – Egg Waffle

Picture of Culture Trip
Updated: 24 March 2017
Within Hong Kong’s traditions and culture, street food is central, and provides a unique experience to both tourists and locals. This HONG KONG 101 video takes you on a journey around the distinctive dishes created by traditional street food vendors in Mong Kok – one of Hong Kong’s most vibrant districts.

EGG WAFFLE: 雞蛋仔

Price: HK$12 (US$1.55)
Location: Dundas Street, Mong Kok

Egg waffle, also called ‘eggettes’, are an iconic snack for the locals of Hong Kong. Traditionally, baked-egg waffles are golden-yellow in colour, with a firm outer-shell and a soft, full interior. The egg waffle’s success as street food is partially due to the fact that it is best consumed minutes after coming out of the skillet – it can be made quickly on the spot and delivered into customers’ hands while still piping hot.
