With a warm glow, and a beautiful speakeasy-feel, Parlor is one of Beijing’s best-kept secrets. The bar itself is beautiful; wooden panels and exposed brick line the walls, and mosaic tealights line the venue’s tabletops, acting as the primary source of lighting. Although Parlor doesn’t have live jazz every night, the bar has them weekly. Jazz enthusiasts enjoying a show at Parlor can both indulge in the smooth tunes, as well as in the bar’s extremely one-of-a-kind cocktails. For those of you who haven’t experienced a jazz night at Parlor yet, grab a drink (we recommend the Alice in Wonderland, and sway the night away to some of the city’s most underrated jazz.
Frank by Ala House
Everything about Frank by Ala House oozes chic. The decor is fittingly Art Deco, with geometric carvings on the wooden walls, shelves of whiskey making up the bar’s inventory, and inviting chairs in muted tones. Frank by Ala House’s door is even decorated in time-appropriate font, boasting the bar’s name in Gatsby-esque lettering. What really establishes this bar as a speakeasy, though, is its live jazz performances; the quality and energy of the performers at Frank by Ala House cannot be competed with. The atmosphere evokes a reminiscent feel of the roaring ’20s. For top-shelf whiskey, high-quality cigars, an amazing crowd, and of course, some of the best jazz in Beijing, Frank by Ala House is a must.
