The Best Breakfast and Brunch Spots in Xidan, Beijing

Picture of Fran Lu
Updated: 29 April 2018
Have a shopping day planned in Xidan, but don’t want to wake up too early for breakfast? Don’t worry, as there are plenty of good breakfast and brunch spots in and around the shopping malls to save you the trouble.

Old Beijing Pie and Porridge

Restaurant, Chinese, $$$
Save to wishlist
The restaurant doesn’t have a fancy name or big space, nor is it located in a very prominent spot (hidden in a hutong alley in fact), but it is always crowded during opening hours. The pies, or more accurately speaking pastries with meat or vegetable fillings, are all cooked to order to make sure they come out warm with the best taste. The restaurant provides other classic Beijing dishes from noodles to snacks, all inexpensive but substantial.

Win House

Restaurant, American, $$$

As vintage as the Xidan shopping area may look, it’s still a shopping area, and thus does have one or two good Western brunch spots to boast of. Win House is one of them, with an all-day brunch on offer. It’s got one of the best eggs Benedict in Beijing, and its creamy clam and mushroom soup is worth trying, too.

Start your day with a French-style brunch at Café Flo – yes, this means a café au lait with a croissant, Madeleine, or even a macaron. Even if you are not a fan of baked goods and desserts, there are still plenty of light dishes from which to choose. Café Flo on the 6th floor of Xidan Joy City is another branch of the Café Flo in Sanlitun and Parkview Green.

Bao Shifu Cake (Xidan)

Bakery, Chinese, $$$
Save to wishlist
Because of the intense popularity of the Bao Shifu Cake, there are more fake Bao Shifu bakeries than authentic ones. You’ll only find out why the bakery is so popular after you try its cakes – nori meat floss cake, cheese egg tart, sugar-free egg cake…the mouthwatering options are endless.

The Beijing Butterfly Spring Hotel

Hotel Restaurant, Chinese, $$$
Save to wishlist
One of the best things about Beijing is that it hosts the office of almost every province, important region, and city of China, which means that you can easily try authentic local food from all over China without leaving Beijing. The Beijing Butterfly Spring Hotel belongs to the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture‘s Beijing office. Here at the hotel’s restaurant, you can have the breakfast that the Bai people (as well as people in Yunnan Province) usually have, for example, cross bridge rice noodles.

Handelin Vegan Restaurant

Restaurant, Chinese, $$$

Vegans also have options in Xidan for breakfast and brunch, thanks to the Handelin Vegan Restaurant. Just like many good-quality vegan restaurants in Beijing, Handelin has Buddhist virtue blended into its décor and atmosphere. Take a seat and have a bowl of cold noodles or cabbage dumplings – a fresh start to a good day.

Taoyuan Village (Xidan)

Restaurant, Chinese, $$$
Save to wishlist
Fancy a Taiwanese brunch that features different kinds of soy milk, minced pork rice balls and sesame buns with fillings? Then Taoyuan Village should be your top choice. It has tasty and ready-to-go food, a clean and cozy ambience, and delicately designed bowls that will reveal some lovely sentences after you finish your meal. The only downside is that the restaurant is inside the shopping mall, so it doesn’t open too early.
