Originally launched in the Netherlands in 2009, FashionClash has partnered with the Chinese cultural initiative Punch Group, the Dutch-Chinese organization About Asia and Cross Lab for the second time to stage a supplementary event to the main festival, which happens in June.
Under the banner of the ‘Future of Fashion’, the events in Chengdu will consider new technologies, design efforts and innovations. Highlights include films from Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck, Suze Milius, Marie-Sophie Beinke, Femke Huurdeman. Other names to look out for include the award-winning fashion designer Marlou Breuls and avant-garde collective, Das Leben Am Haverkamp.
First staged in Chengdu in 2015, the event is an interesting example of the power that the Chinese consumer wields on the international fashion stage. In bringing emerging Dutch talent to the attention of millennial Chinese audiences, young brands have an exciting opportunity to tap into new revenue streams.
