Singer Luis Fonsi has announced that he will be releasing a Mandarin version of his hit song ‘Despacito’.
The track, which took home four trophies at the Latin Grammys this week, is already the most streamed song of all time as well as the most watched video on YouTube.
But Fonsi isn’t done yet with ‘Despacito’.
The Puerto Rican star revealed he will be teaming up with Singaporean pop star JJ Lin on a new remix.
He said: ‘I sang a little bit in Mandarin. The song has become a worldwide phenomenon and singing it in Mandarin is an honour.’
Fonsi, who collaborated with Daddy Yankee on the song, is set to tour Asia next year.
It’s not the first Mandarin cover of the song; YouTube is full of amateur Chinese singers attempting to give Fonsi a run for his money, like this woman…
Pretty good, right?
‘Despacito’ became a huge hit in the US after a remix featuring Justin Bieber was released.
Talking about Daddy Yankee and Bieber, he said: ‘They are my brothers and without them I would not have achieved this.’
He also spoke about the song’s massive success this year at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas.
‘It’s been a beautiful year. Twelve or 11 months of hard work representing our language in the entire world and enjoying a song that, thanks to Latin audiences and many beyond, has become so influential and has united the entire world and broken language barriers,’ he said.
