Touch down at Paro Airport and meet your driver. Then take a scenic two-drive through the countryside to the capital of Thimphu. After lunch, visit the Nado Poizokhang Incense Factory and Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre for an insight into the local craft scene. Then, gather with the group for a meeting and dinner, before exploring Thimphu more.

Start the day with a relaxed walk through paddies, woodland and Tibetan village, making your way to the Cheri Dorji Dhen monastery, which was established in 1620 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first ruler of Bhutan. After a picnic lunch, return to Thimphu for more exploration. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, an important local monument; then visit Drubthob Nunnery; the Choki Traditional Art School; and the National Textile Museum.

Drive to Punakha, the former capital, pausing en route at the Dochu-La Pass for a view of the eastern Himalayas. Also visit the three-towered Chimi Lhakhang fertility temple. It was built in 1499 by Iama Drukpa Kunley at the meeting point of two rivers and is now thought to be among the most beautiful of the 21 dzongs (traditional fortresses) in Bhutan.

Journey to the meeting point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers to admire the Punakha Dzong. It’s the second-oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan, while also a cantilever bridge. After, you can choose to join an optional hike to Khamsum Yulley Monastery, an elaborate stupa built to protect the country from evil.

This morning, return to Thimphu for lunch, before travelling into the Paro Valley. In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked meal and Bhutanese hospitality at Tshering Farm House. Then try your hand at archery – the national sport of Bhutan.

Fuel up at breakfast, this morning we hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest), a monastery built on a cliff edge. After a one-hour hike, you’ll reach a teahouse with a view of the temple – stop here for lunch and a chance to rest your legs. You can then ascend even further, or simply stay at the teahouse enjoying the view.

Sadly, this Bhutan tour ends after breakfast. After saying goodbye to your new-found friends, take a complimentary transfer to the airport to catch your return flight.
