Wasp & Sprout

This is proof that Nairobi is just as hipster as any European city. The interior is a fusion of a hip industrial look with African prints, locally produced furniture, and cool Kenyan art. The bike on the wall finishes off the great aesthetic. Breakfast or brunch is great here, with a huge variety in hearty (try the baby spinach bacon salad) or sweet (ricotta pancakes or deconstructed parfait). Brunch starts with an ice cold ice coffee and ends with a Bloody Mary cocktail. Wasp & Sprout is more than just a café, and profiles itself as a lifestyle brand, producing original design furniture and accessories. They also sell organic food products in the venue next door. A must-visit on a lazy Sunday in Nairobi.

River Cafe

Nairobi is a city full of greenery. Once a thick jungle, the Kenyan capital is one of the greenest cities in Africa. River Cafe is beautifully situated in the Karura Forest, an urban forest that makes you forget about the city surroundings. The forest is home to a large variety of birds and monkeys. Go for an early morning hike here, and end up in the River Cafe, a jungle café that serves excellent breakfast or brunch. An intimate rustic setting in the open with a great view of the forest and its waterfalls, even just a coffee in one of the lounge chairs is worth the visit.

Peponi Springs

A wonderful local hidden gem on Peponi Road in Old Kitisuru, this jungle terrace is in the middle of the city but feels like the opposite. With a view over a lush garden, this place is a breath of fresh air. Don’t expect excellent Italian coffee or banana pancakes here, as this is more of a local cuisine. Try an omelette for breakfast with fresh juice or go for brunch with some nice kuku choma (chicken BBQ). They often have live music events, so keep an eye on their Facebook page to get the latest updates.

Le Grenier A Pain

A delicious French bakery smack in the middle of Nairobi, Le Grenier a Pain was first set up by Michel Galloyer in 1998 in Paris. The bakery now has 30 branches, from Paris to Tokyo, and now Nairobi (the first on the African continent). They sell breathtaking cakes, pies, and pastries that look more like artworks than anything else. Go here for a good coffee and a perfect breakfast in a classy atmosphere.

K1 Klub House

K1 Klub House is a large mansion in the middle of Nairobi. The venue is best known for its night time parties, such as the reaggae night on Thursday. However, since last summer, they started hosting the K1 Klubhouse Flea Market in the weekend, a great atmosphere where local artisans sell their products. After strolling around the stalls, there’s the option to go for an amazing booze infused brunch.

Nook Cafe

This cozy café is hidden in Akamba Court off Woodlands Lane. This is a tiny place with a big atmosphere and great styling. Their Instagram is mouth-watering, as they show off a different cuisine every week, only using fresh, organic, and free-range ingredients. Breakfast or brunch is the way to go here, and the perfect place to spend an easy Friday or Saturday with friends.

Mlango Farm

About a 45-minute drive out of Nairobi, in the village of Ngecha, you will find Mlango Farm. Set up by a Dutchie and her Kenyan husband, this is a beautiful green oasis that gives you the country vibe you crave after a work week. Since 2007 the neglected Mlango farmland has been tended to and replanted with a variety of vegetables and fruits. Now, ten years later, they produce an abundance of great organic food delivered to your doorstep in Nairobi. Go here for the weekend to have a walk through the orchards and join us for an organic brunch.

Brioche Cafe

Brioche is the perfect place to take a seat and spend weekend time. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try anything with eggs for a hearty breakfast, pastries for the sweet tooth, and excellent coffee to wash it all down.

Urban Eatery

Urban Eatery is a good place for any occasion: go here for a bloody mary on Sunday morning with friends, or take your laptop along for an easy work day in their great atmosphere. The restaurant is a well-styled and classy food court and the menu is endless—before you know it you’ve had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here!

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
