Say bulla – Fijian for hello – to some of the best boutique hotels on Malolo, Vomo, Beqa, the main island and many more with our list of the top boutique hotels in Fiji.

Offering more than 300 islands, all haloed with cotton-soft sands and cobalt waters, Fiji doesn’t make it easy to pick a single place to stay. Focus on the country’s boutique hotels and shortlisting suddenly gets much easier. Once you see the sort of private pools, open-air bathrooms and garden-to-table restaurants on offer, you’ll soon make up your mind.

1. Six Senses Fiji, Malolo Island

Every villa at this luxury hotel, off the west coast of Fiji, comes with a private pool and an outdoor bathroom so you can shower in sunbeams or starlight. There’s a trio of restaurants and wherever possible, dishes are made with ingredients from the resort’s own farm and herb garden. Thirsty? You’d need a decade to get through the drinks list here. The wine menu is 17 pages long and the cocktail selection includes “interactive,” “healthy” and “love potion” options.

2. Vomo Island Resort, Vomo Island

Vomo Island Resort claims an entire tropical island for itself yet retains a boutique hotel vibe. Visitors arrive here by helicopter from Nadi International Airport and can choose to stay in a beachfront or hillside villa or a larger holiday home. The latter come with their own infinity pools and private butler service. Beach picnics, fishing trips, aerial yoga and spa treatments like marine plant facials are all on the cards here. Nothing really beats watching the sunset every evening in the adults-only Rocks Bar, though.

4. Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva

The names of multiple members of the British royal family are inked into the reservations book at the century-old Grand Pacific Hotel, which overlooks the harbour in Fiji’s capital city. The Queen Elizabeth Suite, decked out in royal reds, pays homage to this. Rooms in the National Trust-listed Heritage section of the building also reflect the hotel’s history. These feature original beams, ornate pillars and verandas whilst the Royal Suite comes with a frothy Jacuzzi bath to boot.

5. Beqa Lagoon Resort, Beqa Island

Tropical gardens swaddle Beqa Lagoon Resort off the south coast of Fiji. There are no roads around here, so the place is pin-drop quiet. Visitors can stay in garden or beachfront villas, some of which come with their own plunge pools. For something slightly different though, choose from one of the six Koi Pond Villas. These are surrounded by trickling fountains and a pond filled with lily pads and milk-and-tangerine-hued fish.

6. First Landing Beach Resort and Villas, Fiji Island

Named after the spot where Captain Bligh first landed in Fiji, this boutique hotel offers a choice of villas and apartments, including some with sea views and spa baths. The resort is really geared up for families. There’s a kids club, kids’ menus and an early sitting dinner time for children that allows parents to return for their meal later. When that time comes, the seafood platters come highly recommended. They wash down well with a Muddy Punch cocktail.

7. Toberua Island Resort, Toberua Island

Toberua Island Resort is set on a private island that waxes and wanes from 14 acres (5.5ha) at high tide to 36 acres (14.5ha) at low tide. When the waves recede, they reveal a nine-hole, par-three reef golf course, which complements the nine-hole path putting course that’s available all day long. Accommodation takes the form of thatched bures and villas – two premium villas are right on the beach and come with hammocks or swing seating complete with views of the sea.

8. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji, Vanua Levu

A former coconut plantation is the setting for this boutique hotel on Vanua Levu island, off the northeast coast of Fiji. The whole resort looks over Savusava Bay, with its azure waters, coral planting garden and giant clam farm. There are only 25 thatched villas here, spread across 17 acres (7ha), which also include a lily pond, beach, organic garden and spa – try the Bobo massage, it’s done with coconut oil harvested from the nearby Wailevu Village.

9. Qamea Resort and Spa Fiji, Qamea Island

Resort, Boutique Hotel, Spa Hotel

Each of the thatched villas and beach houses at Qamea Resort and Spa overlooks the cashew-coloured sands of the resort’s private beach. The Bure Kalau restaurant and cocktail bar do, too. However, the coast isn’t the only natural eye candy at this boutique hotel in Fiji. The whole place is set within 42 acres (17ha) of lush coconut palms and tropical gardens, where you can spot wildlife like orange doves, fruit bats and kingfishers.

10. Likuliku Lagoon Resort - Adults Only, Malolo Island

Resort, Boutique Hotel, Luxury

The name Likuliku translates as calm waters and the deep blue is certainly at the heart of things at this tranquil Fiji boutique hotel. Villas sit directly over the water whilst the restaurant menu revolves around seafood dishes like salt-and-pepper lobster and a Fijian ceviche known as kokoda. No stay here is complete without a trip to the resort’s private island, Mociu, where guests can dive, picnic and watch the sunrise over the lagoon.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
